There were variants on the 1100s. Ever look at the jet size(s)? Or float levels? Maybe something is tweaked on your orignal carb?

I have a couple that someone removed the plastic venturi thing and it dont run worth a darn without it. I think there were also differnt size venturies.

I haven't seen a decent "remanufactured" carb come out of a parts store in over 10 years, they're ALL crap - Holley, Cardone, whatever. I swear, the carb "remanufacturers" (and I use that term VERY loosely) do all sorts of ham-fisted and stupid things, like clip off power piston rods, rounding off the slots in jets that they pick from random, hammering throttle shafts into carb bodies, overtightening/stripping idle mixture screws, the list of awful things I've seen just goes on and on and on - and working on carbs isn't my line of work!

Besides, keeping the original carb means keeping the original jets, etc, and you at least know some of the carbs' history.

The WORST thing you're looking at is going to be worn throttle shafts, and installing bronze bushings isn't any harder than carefully operating a drill - and there are kits available with the reamers, etc for under $50.

Really and truly, unless your carb has broken in half, you're better off rebuilding it yourself. If you really don't want to rebuild it yourself, there are several reputable carb places like ponycarbs, the carb shop, etc.

If you DO need a new carb, then I'd either watch for deals here on fordsix, or save up your nickels for a Pony carb.

i too went through the switching of carbs from the parts stores after my holley 1940 took a crap it was no better than the 1100. In the end i went to ebay and bought a carter rbs for 50 bucks flowing 215 cfm more than the 180 from the 1100. The rbs is for a 250 with a larger throttle bore since i didnt want to modify the carb spacer i went to the local medal shop traced out the bottom of the carb and they punched out a 1/2 inch aluminum spacer for 20 bucks mounted it up and the car runs smoother and is a little more powerful than ever before it used the stock air cleaner and has an isolated fuel bowl for easy maitenence also very easy to tune. I usede the load o matic dizzy for a few months and it worked ok but then my dizzy went bad so i just got the non load o matic correct for the carb.

The Carter RBS was only used for 1970. It was available as a service replacement after that. So, there are a few more than just 1970 applications. The Carter YF was then used and its a good one also.

I'm in the search myself.

For those interested, we will be stocking the Autolite 1100, 2100, and 4100 from Pony Carbs in the next few weeks. By doing so, we get a reduced price and will passing the savings along to our customers. I may be adding them to the website this weekend, if I have time. Otherwise it will be next week.
