I haven't seen a decent "remanufactured" carb come out of a parts store in over 10 years, they're ALL crap - Holley, Cardone, whatever. I swear, the carb "remanufacturers" (and I use that term VERY loosely) do all sorts of ham-fisted and stupid things, like clip off power piston rods, rounding off the slots in jets that they pick from random, hammering throttle shafts into carb bodies, overtightening/stripping idle mixture screws, the list of awful things I've seen just goes on and on and on - and working on carbs isn't my line of work!
Besides, keeping the original carb means keeping the original jets, etc, and you at least know some of the carbs' history.
The WORST thing you're looking at is going to be worn throttle shafts, and installing bronze bushings isn't any harder than carefully operating a drill - and there are kits available with the reamers, etc for under $50.
Really and truly, unless your carb has broken in half, you're better off rebuilding it yourself. If you really don't want to rebuild it yourself, there are several reputable carb places like ponycarbs, the carb shop, etc.
If you DO need a new carb, then I'd either watch for deals here on fordsix, or save up your nickels for a Pony carb.
