Well...went by the shop today right as the motor was being slipped in, lol, "slipped" It went in alright actually, but was a pain when tryin to line up all the tranny bolts. Anyways, time to really get movin and hopefully get a few goodies in and situated. Its only a matter of time!

is your tunnel as tight as mine? I have to put the trans in with bell attached or else there is not enough room to slide the trans into teh bell if the bell is bolted up first.

so still no turbo correct? If I remember correctly you were waiting to get it in before mock up... I bet your getting excited...

Matt,

did they get to weigh those pistons prior to installation? Did you go with floating pins?

62, the tunnel is tight, but not tooooo bad, but we left the tranny in this time around so all we had to do was mate the motor to the bell.

68, No turbo yet, still finishing the motor up and then the manifold and then the turbo. We already have alot of kool ideas and PLENTY of room to try them out, hopefully soon! Oh, and Im more than excited, its like the last couple days before Christmas, they are goin WAY too slow, lol

SP, I didnt get to weigh the pistons, all I know is the box of 6 was light as crap!!!! I did end up getting floating wrist pins in the end. I gave the pistons to my shop as fast as I got them so that the machine shop could measure for the block

I will try to head over there in the next couple days to get some pics if I can. My digi was giving me problems so I never could get pics of the progress, which makes me really upset, but I got it workin (kinda) now and if that doesnt work, my sister is in town with hers so I will try that out. Stay tuned for updates, lol

Congrats!

I don't want to spoil the party, but I strongly suggest something better suited for the turbo than the stock exhaust manifold. There were some pics of the ME exhaust cast iron "shorty headers" around this forum. Emulating that setup with thick tubes would be the way to go IMHO. Remember, you need an unrestricted exhaust as possible when you go the forced induction route.

Party not spoiled, check with importkiller and what he's usin for his forced induction set-up. Thats where Im gettin my ideas from. PLUS, it will only be for now until I can afford to go the route of a good header. What would be the fun of making it all perfect all at once, lol.

I made up a simple log manifold to direct mount the turbo next to the carb. I gotta work until tuesday but on tuesday I am running into the shop and milling the flanges flat and the ports out so I might be able to get my setup going by the end of the month

Sweet...I might be knockin on your door lookin for a header in the next little bit then, lol. ACTUALLY, seeing that you live in Carbondale and my sister goes to Southern Ill, I might have to come "visit" her and see things for myself, lol

Went by the shop today, carb and turbo needed to be sent out to get some work but the rest is ready to rock. Guy helpin out had some downtime and "tidied" up a few things to make it look better underhood. Proly could fire the motor as soon as we got the carb back, but I think were gonna wait for the hairdryer to come home and then go for it. Just a little update, Ill take pics when I can!

Well, ran by the shop for two seconds today and took some pics. Heres the motor in full form. All its missin is the carb and the turbo/cooler/piping and radiator.

Another of the 69 exhaust manifold and carb adapter. Its a tight fit but so far the hood closes with the carb in place

And last, heres the car as a whole. The stance is still a little off, its usually pretty level. The radiator, exhaust, turbo etc will help level it out

Thats it for now, turbo is bein rebuilt, carb is gettin set-up and the rest is just a matter of time. Hopefully soon....hopefully soon

SWEET! I love the way the valve cover is painted, it looks so shiny and smooth. What kind of paint is it?

Just a small suggestion, Move that coil off the side of the block, Heat and vibration is it's worst enemy.
Just my 02 worth. : )

Southern Cross, its just engine paint from autozone. Prep work is the key to success here, lol. Strip the old paint and clean the crud out of it, then paint with a good high temp paint in light coats.

Zephyr, The coil will be moved soon. I have already had problems with the coil in the past. We need to move the solenoid as well, so Ill prolly do it then. Good call tho, I prolly woulda forgot

Berger, I WAS goin to direct mount, but we forgot to mention it when it was at the machine shop and we found that the old adapter fits with a little work on the mounting holes. I just want the car runnin right now, then Ill worry bout stuff like that.

Ill keep updating as things happen...next step INTERCOOLER...just gotta get my mechanic to order it from his "guy" lol.
