Hi. I hope someone can help me. My carb is bubbling and dripping fuel about 5 minutes after shut off.I have a 200 with a ford-o-matic.Also I cant go more than 50 or so with out it trying to die on me.It acts like it is running out of gas.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My first guess would be to check the float level or the needle valve.

I would agree with Bill. Most of these old cars have this same problem but it shows up as a "hard to start" problem. After the car is shut down after a run, the fuel in the bowl heats up and over flows into the intake causing a rich condition. Sound like yours is overflowing onto the head. There was a string a few days back that discussed the hard starting during the summer months.

In your case I would make sure that the float level is not set to high. It’s best to set the level just high enough to keep the engine from starving. An improper level will also affect your mileage.

Good luck, Ric.

Well I'll try setting the float.Hope it works.Thank you guys so much for the info.

8) if you have the carb heater hooked up that will contribute to your problem. what happens is the carb gets too hot and the fuel boils in the float bowl creating a vapor lock situation. disconnect the heater hoses from the carb heater and the problem should go away.

to do this, would I have to drain the radiator and then just buy along hose to go to the heater core under dash? Or does this hose not end under dash?

novice question...sorry..

I think that is part of my problem when starting hot. It has a hard time sometimes

If you go to the auto parts store you can buy a "t" to hook the two hoses together to bypass the carb plate.Much easier than replacing the length of hose to the heater core.

8) actually you dont want a T fitting but an inline connector. an auto parts store will have one in plastic, but if you go to a hardware store you can find one in brass.
