my head

I just crunched the numbers on my head, i was under the impression my motor was all original and only ever had the head off for unleaded petrol upgrade (hardened seats) my head numbers are C9DE6049B, from what i can tell its a 1969 head, has the flat log but unsure if a mid year head when they swapped to 1.75” intake bore, my other obvious concern is that its not a 200 head. The advantage i have is the flat log and easier for adapter etc, but would like to know if my combustion chambers are what i thought they would be or different.

You'll have to measure them, the head may have been shaved at some point. Mine is a c9de head, stock off of 1970 250, never resurfaced and it has 62cc chambers.

i am thinking the same, mine will be a 250 with 62cc chambers, maybe have the larger volume log.

The bore is the same on the two motors so it's not a big deal, just have it shaved down to get you're C/R back to where you need it after you measure it.

can you confirm is the casting number on your head (on the log manifol) ARC9DE or just C9DE?

ARC9 would be an australian 1969 -so either 221ci -0r 188 off a Xw falcon

C9 would be american

gb500, the complete number is ARC9DE6049B, another group of numbers on the head near carbie same side as head number is 18E2

18E2 is date head was cast decodes as May 18, if its a really 2 then together with the C9 in basic casting number that would make it a 1972 head. Some times though the numbers get mixed up when they cast them. In that case another possible date that it could have been cast is May 12, and the 8 would then make it a 1968 head that would have been used on an early production 1969 model Falcon this is likely the right date. Good luck :nod:

well there you go - all the casting numbers needed when trying to identify.
its as i said, from an australian 221ci or 188ci.

AR = australian requirements
C9 =1969

when did Aus drop the 200, and when did we start 250? my XY wagon was a 250 log, i am going to pull the carby off tomorrow and measure the hole, hopefully its 1.75

my friend shot me some numbers of his 221, still has the engine tag attached, numbers are completely different 72BA6049AA

yes -thats because a 72BA cast head is from a 1972 onwards 250ci(or post 1972 200) australian engine.

which means your mate has a250 head on a 221ci engine-

what do you mean by engine tag ?

ok
for 6 cyl australian falcons pre crossrflow

xm,xp = narrow block 200ci
late xp production may have some xr 200 wide blocks
all the rest are wide blocks:

xr = 170 and 200ci ( xr 200 has '200' cast on block-handy)
xt/xw = 188 and 221ci

xy/xa/xb = 250ci and 200ci - but the 200ci is same block as 250 ci- ie tall, and nothing like the earlier xr 200 blocks

PS: my money is on 1.5"

engine tag is usually lost early on, his tag was still on, near the coil, he took a photo of it for me, i can’t post pics here but if you friend me on face book or join my fb page Hot Inline Sixes and Vintage i will post it there all send you a message,

i’ll try and load pics, i have a apple mac so this has always been an issue for this propeller head,

no care for facebook.
so if you can post some pics.

but an engine block tag doesnt prove the head is from a 200ci

Stock head for XR's is the 1963 C1 170 head casting. They are gold colored. With the XW, The 188/221 head was still big chambered US and Aussie 200 design, but without the larger valve stem diameters and asymmetrical chamber of the later 200/250 heads. iF ITS 200/350 Tall deck, it got the 71DA prefix for the XY, 72DA for the XA and TC Cortina, and a few others for the XB. The Transit kept the 221 for a few years after the unit was axed in the X cars.

Someone has just added the XW or Transit head.
All he changes started with the 188/221, but the tall deck 200/250 log and 2V was where all the got heavy duty bits were added.

As for facebook, well, sorry, I don't sign there either. I like BRW Savers 24hrs at Lemonz site, where you can look, but can't touch. I'll feed you up with plenty of great images you can paste there, though, and you can PM me and I'll post anything you want if you like.
