I was going through my local junkyard and came upon "the mystery engine". Ita was in the trunk of another car so no telling what it came out of. It is a straight 6 with an aluminum head and SOHC. intake and exhaust are on the same side. Anyone have any idea of what it might be? Ill try to get some pics later

its not either on of those... the intake and exhaust on this one are both on the "passenger" side of the engine. Its really a strange looking engine. Anyway don't rack your brains too hard on it.. I was just curiouse and thought someone on here might know "other" engines better than I.

Kaiser OHC. Very tall, some have said it was effectivley a Continental Six OHC conversion.

3.8 liter oil slinger made famous in the Argentine Renualt Torino (aka 1964 Rambler American with a 1958 Kiaser Darrin engine in it).

You don't think a Merc six? Split exhaust fanimolds; pretty sure they weren't all crossflows (if any).

The Kaiser-Jeep engine used a hemi head with overhead cam. The intake
manifold was on the drivers side and the exhaust was on the passenger side. They called it the Tornado 230.

Ah, thanks for that. Not a Tornado 230.

I'd say BMW 320, 323, 325!. They had the early simeased bore engine, a sweet thing with fuel injection, which was also found in Liclon LSC's in 2.4 diesel form. A very, very compact engine with a great reputation for performance in the smaller early 3 and 5 series Bemmers. After the emissions regulations bit in 1980, they were a bit of a lame duck on the highway.

Other options. I'd say Toyota 2M, 3M, 5M engines had non cross flow heads on some versions. Quite a few 2 liter imports into NZ had similar intakes to the 2V Falcon 250, but were on very small bore engines less tha 27 inches long at the rocker cover.

The old Nissan L-20, 24, 26, 28'S were also non cross flow.

The Aussie Kimberly, Marina Six, and Leyland P76 2262 and 2611 was a non cross flow, from memory.
