Need advice-best single out header?

I have an exhaust leak that I can't get rid of on the used header I got for cheap. I am going to have to pull the header and check the surface to see if it's flat. But I think the problem is the header. Classic Inlines does not make a single out header and I don't think I have enough room for a double out anyway.

Any suggestions on the best place to buy a single out header for my 250 I6?

Thanks.
Michael

I bought mine form Clifford's Performance. I was told they'd ship in 6-8 weeks. I called at 8 weeks and they told it would ship in two more. I called at week #10 and was told they ship in two weeks. When I finally threatened to cancel the order, they shipped them at week #12. They are noted for being V-E-R-Y slow to ship product out.

If you decide to go with Cliffy make sure to check the gaskets when the kit arrives. The gaskets in my kit were this super cheap, white, fibrous, brittle, thin piece o' crap stuff. The collector gasket failed in two years and the main one a year latter. Any 2-1/4" header gasket can be used for the collector; so but the best you can find at a local speed shop. I forgot where I bought the main gasket, but I did have to get a new one.

Same deal. I think they must make them when you order. I'd call ahead before ordering.

The dude at Cliffy told me that they had to fab them up too; but please don't tell me 6-8 weeks if there has to be others that order them so they can be made!!! It was the first (and last) time I bought from Cliffy.

Thanks for the advice. I have heard lots of stories about Clifford and their lousy customer service. It doesn't really make sense for them to fab them up one at a time, does it? Wouldn't it cost them less to make a batch at a time?

I am considering it. But am concerned about the fitment. I have a 63 convertible with a transplanted 250 I6 and there is not alot of room for the header to exit between the body and engine, so the dual out is a concern. Also, the Y tube you gave a link to is out of stock!

You can always use Classic Inlines header and then use this Y pipe to make it a single outlet http://classicinlines.com/proddetail.as ... D200%2DPYP
And classic's header can come jet hot coated or in stainless steel. Also they have some pretty nice custom exhaust systems so you don't have to fab ur own or pay some one to do it.

thanks josh. but i am having exhaust leak problems currently with a header of unknown make (i bought it used). so, i really want to know where the header was made and that others have had good luck. i DO NOT want to have to pull out the exhaust again, know what i mean?

www.mandrel-bends.com for your primaries. They have build kits that seem to be the cheapest around. Their price is pretty high on 3 into 1 collectors but you could make your own if you get the primaries' tubing.

Look around for laser houses that can do your flange. The place we use local happily accepts small orders(poor economy means they won't snub the little guys) but price goes down as batch goes up.

Thanks! Good tip, I will check the website out.
