Ok guys, long before I got my licence I dreamed of owning a shmick xf. Now Ive got responsibilities I cant go nuts as I once dreamed, but i would still like to tool up my old ford.
Its got an awsome paint job, some 5 spoke cala mags, an exhaust with extractors and has been lowered.
Other than that its duel fuel, 3.3 ltr, carby and has shoddy suspension.

What I am trying to get done Is to fix it up and have the project done by june 04. I can put approx $150 to the project per week (that the plan). The engine will be swaped for a 4.1 litre come tax time.

What I am after is some input as to how I would go about it? I want suspension first as the previous owner had it lowered and just cut the springs. Thats worn the shockers out as well. Other than the engine, SHould I add a cam? Carby? what the best way to go? That would need to be done after the engine was put in so that might be long term.

Question: WHat are some good shockers and where can I go for a good suspensio job in SA? WHat kind of prices should I expect?

heya moose, im in geelong vic so i can not really help u as far as suspension places around youre town, here its pedders and they do it, or u can get kings, gaberal, koni, lots a springs and shocks are avaliable for the x file series fords due to the hundreds of thousands that were made.
pretty straigt foward to put in, dont forget to run a nice stiff sway bar bit thicker at the back if u want it to oversteer good for drifting.

heres just a few ideas for a motor but its becoming a trend on this site.
since u have a 200 keep the rods out of it, now get ya self ya 250 motor and turf the rods out of that .
now that leaves ya a 250 crank , 200 rods right :>.
acl sell an engine re-build kit, its a larry perkins kit actually, with race series acl gear its good stuff, they have pistions that take a 200 rod on a 250 crank, there light weight and if u wana rev that 6 there a step in the right direction, in the kit u get all bearings, race serries of course, the gaskets have stainles borr lines, .. the kit cost me around 500

it contaians from memory

pistons
bearings
welsh plugs
sump gasket
plasta guage = for checking clearances
all gaskets, sump, water pump innnlet .....
rings

thats ya bottem end taken care of, as far as cam id go for a mild set up, u dont want to over cam, id go 215 @ .050 and around 500, crow have a cam very close to this grind, if u have a manual, id go mabie a bit bigger 224@ .050 and 500 lift, thal cam over a decent amound, but is still very streetable, with these cams, if u dont run rollers, the push rods will rub on the back of thae standard rocker, ive seen them snap in half at the end from this wear. if u can find a set of cast head push rods, they are less prone to this, as they are tappered at then ends. the only prob u might run into using these is that they are shorter and there might not be enuff travel in the lifter to take it up, but the less pre load the better :>

jp timing chain and gear set :>

depending on how epa complient ya would like ya car, id recomend injection, but depending on ya budget, the old 500 holley, on ultraflow, or a 600 on a redline 4 barle isnt a bad way to go.

diff gears, with the first cam id go at least 3.23 and with the second at least 3.50, a facons a heavy car, and a motor thats outa its torque range, needs all the help it can get.

****** MY MATES CAR HAD THAT 224@ .050 CAM IN HIS CORTINA, WITH A DEAD STOCK HEAD ONLY MOD WAS VALVE SPRINGS AND RETAINERS, WHICH U WILL NEAD AND THE HEAD HAD 80 THO OF IT., A N OLD REDLINE 2 BARRLE MANIFOLD, WITH AN ADAPTOR TO A 4 BARRLE, EXTRACTORS, AND A DEAD STOCK BOTTEM END OTHER THAN ARP ROD BOLTS, AND THAT MADE 140 RWKW, SO I WOULDNT WORRIE TO MUCH ABOUT HEAD PORTING... THESE HEADS SEEM PRETY GOOD UP TO THESE SORTA LEVELS. HIS HEAD WAS C2 AND IT STILL HAD THE BIT BEETWEEN THE VALVES

Hey Dynoed250... where about did u get that acl rebuild kit from??? :?:
:?: :?: If i knew who sold it, it buy it in a second!

I'm in the exact same boat as Moose - Iv'e got a 200 XF in which I wanna stroke up.

Also, do u reckon u can post some pics of ur corty? Theyre hell good looking cars and i wanna c wot urs look like!

Thanks buddy.

the i have picks on my computer took em today, i dont know how to post em to this board though, took picks of my manifold and motor 2 :>:>:>
anny help on how to post these picks would be much appreachated, or just post ya e-mail. there 900 k each though.

i got my re-build kit through jd engines here in geelong, any engine shop should be able to get them in, the race series ones though run higher comp pistons so dont shave to much of ya head :>
get ya block and crank measured first, so u know what sizes u can order in ya kit..

there good shit :>:>:>

You have to specify a site that hosts the pic... You cant just have them on your hard disk and post em... Youve gotta specify the site ur pic is on... For example, I'll post a pic of my cortina that i just sold not long ago

All i done was copy the site my cortina pic was on to your post, highlight that link and then press the "Img" button, just above where you type in ur replys to posts.

Did that help?

LinkPhoto

D250: Look on the right side of the screen when the "thumbnails" are all displayed. There is a create link option. First click the tiny box under one photo only, then the "create link". It will just show text in a box on top right. Click the boxes on the left for the choice of large, small or original size.

Then click the "highlight text" button below the text. Use the "Control C" command to copy this highlighted stuff. Then paste the highlighted stuff into the Fordsix reply, using either the "Paste" option from the menu or "Control V". Then make it an "IMG" in the usual fashion.

Cheers, Adam.
