I just bought a 68 Mustang with a 200ci I6, 3-speed. Right now, we are upgrading the suspension and brakes because they just plain suck. I was wondering if one of you guys had a list of things that needed to be done to swap a V8 into it. I was going to hop up the 6, but now, with the suspension being redone, I might just go with an 8. I know the rear end needs to be swapped, and I'm planning on buying a 5 lug disc brake conversion kit, or the "junk yard search" way. But I still need a list of things. http://pages.sbcglobal.net/antian26/main.html That site has a link for the list, but it's been down forever. Thanks.

I will be the first to welcome you to the forum. I will also warn you that v8 owners don't get much respect here. There is plenty of information about v8 swapping on the internet, just do a search. Or go to the store and pick up any mustang magazine, they'll have an article with the info you need.

Welcome. Now before you go out and destroy your car by dropping in a
V-8 why don't you spend some time looking around here and reading some of the past posts and performance mods. That little six you have can build some decent power and still be different than all the other I had to drop a V-8 into it crowd

Ya, I decided I am going to keep it. Too much money and time to go with the V8 swap. The only reason I was asking was because I need to get some new front suspension parts. I was thinking in the far future, if I wanted to drop an 8 in it, I would have the chance. But the more I think about it, the more it doesn't really make sense.

I think it all depends on what kind of person you are :P Most people here don't hate V8s just dont think they are the end all that they are made out to be. I think that they are the lazy man's engine for those that don't like a challenge of making the misunderstood I6 into something respectable and differant.

When I discovered/joined this forum I was surfing the internet looking for information to swap a V8 into my car, the mods you see in my sig were done 10+ years ago, and I did them on my own, not a fun thing in the sea V8s, then I discovered the FordSix Forums found out I wasn't the only person kooky enough to hop up an I6 8) mine staying inline powered.

Just my 2 cents.

See Ya,
Mike

P.S. Welcome

Erik,

We all have the same debate I think. When I first got my 65, my first instinct was to drop a V-8 in there. And honestly, I think it stays in most peoples minds, I know it stays in mine. I'm upgrading to all V-8 front and rear end this winter. Mainly because disc brakes are cheaper for the V-8 by enough that I'd rather put the V-8 stuff. Also, it gives me the possibility of putting a V-8 in at some point if I desire to.

THis site, and a lot of the peoples personal websites, you'll find tons of information about building a 6 up. It is very possible to make a I6 get the same power as a stock 289/302.

If you are in to shows, I guarantee your built up 6 will get more attention then any of the V-8s.
