ive just found a new starter for the XR ,It was running the old lucas m40 of the 200 non cross flow .The new one is a high torque starter with 1.4kw
and the planetary gear set up .If your falcon starter suffers from heat
this unit is smaller overall than the stock unit and should bolt up to almost all of the falcon non cross and crossflow range .These are made in aussie
by ASHDOWNS under the number 0140119. The old bosch type that was standard equipment on alot falcons was only 1.1kw .
hope this can help someone out there.

cheers dave

Hello,

yeah I just replaced my starter motor on my te cortina with one of the new ones, they will fit from xt-au falcon and cortina, though on the cortina its a very tight fit, little room between the firewall and starter motor, prbably about 2-3mm or so gap. Its also better than the older one as its smaller in size and good if you have extractors.

cheers, thanks for that. Might go and pick my self up one now.

The old Transit has eaten about 3 or 4 starters in the last couple of years.
Where do you get new ones for $100 from? Surely not a Ford dealer, they are ridicuous for price.

New starter motor for $100? Well I paid $159 for mine from autobarn, went to an auto electrician and had them but wanted $25 more. Iam in Victoria, though if you can get a new one for $100 thats cheap considering you would probably pay $40 - $50 from the wreckers.

i get trade prices down here in vic... as im a mechanic.. the same dealer also was selling BRAND NEW fuel injctors for ef/els for 110 a set ... with a retail of 300 odd was a good cash maker

i went into my ford dealer and picked one up today cost me 110 :> for an au-3 one which is the smallest of them all :.
the reetail is 185

Just a little off topic,
Hows your motor going anyway, you mentioned a while back that you were making a new intake manifold for it.

Cheers
