I have a 1966 Mustang with a inline 6 cyl engine with a C4 transmission. I am trying to be sure that an engine swap has not taken place. I cannot find an engine tag that tells me if this is a 200 or a 250 engine. The air cleaner appears to be from a 1969 250. The valve cover has the "power by Ford" lettering. How can I tell if I have an original I6 200?

Thanks for your help,

Jragtop

if there is a tag it would be on were the coil bolts to the block.
i'm pretty sure they didn't start putting the valve cover stamped with powered by ford until 68

hope this helps alittle

Look for a casting number on the top of the intake lag. Will tell you at least what year that part came from. First two digits indicate year. Mine says C8 which means 1968.

On the engine look at the water pump.

200 has a three bolt connection to block.

250 has a four bolt connection to block.

Use a mirror to make sure you look under the fan belt pulley to find all the bolts.

Cheers,
