I have been forced to change over to a cable throttle after my machine shop messed up my E0 head. The plate he mounted over the EGR port doesn't allow for enough room where my carb attaches to my linkage, so Im just screwed. Basically, I paid him 50$ in labor to make my job harder.

Anyways, I guess im going to be changing over to cable throttle, as I believe this is the only way I can fix this mistake... The problem is, the EGR block plate is too fat. I have no clue what to do, so if you guys have any ideas, spill. I was thinking about changing to the 2barrel carb, but I dont think i want to take my head back and have it machined again. Right now I just want to throw the engine in the trash!!

Right now, I dont even know if cable throttle is possible. I guess Ill try to find some pictures and see if my plate will block off the cable too. Who knows, i might get lucky.

Dude, don't sweat it!

I have a solution....

First, exactly how thick is the plate he made???

Second, I have a bunch of these bolts:

They have 3/8" coarse thread, so they will screw right into your holes where the EGR was. An allen wrench tightens them.

You could almost go as thin as 1/4" plate with these bolts

Id say the plate is a good inch thick. I think he made it that thick thinking that he would mount the throttle linkage mounting rod on the same part?? No clue.

Anyway, those bolts you had pictured were the same ones he used I believe. They were tightened by an allen wrench. I think im going to take the head back to him tomorrow, show him the problem, and see if he will machine the plate to a smaller thickness for free. He probably won't because time is money, and he is one of the top notch engine builders in the area... but maybe for a poor college kid... :( .

Update. While trying to put a new seal in the timing chain cover, I managed to crack mine. Anyone have an extra? PM me if you do.

Im very discouraged right now, so just ignore my whining and mood. Offer a solution, and you are my new best friend. Thanks guys

I broke it as I was trying to press in a new seal. I guess i gave it too much pressure, and it just cracked.

I haven't had too much experience with welding, just few things here and there that needed fixing, so I guess Ill just buy a used one from someone at a local salvage yard.

Back to the topic... If my plate was only 1/4th inch thick, do you think it would disturb my throttle linkage? The linkage is for a 1968 mustang, and I was going to use the fixed linkage.

Has anyone used an E0 head with fixed linkage and a plate mounted over the EGR port? I'm not even too sure if it can be done anymore..

One other thing, if the EGR hole is machined perfectly round, you could just tap a freeze plug of that size in the hole and forget about a plate.
