Offy tuning question...

I know where my major vacuum leak is right now. It was caused by the backfire on Sunday. It is leaking at the intake/head base right under the first carb. I found it using carb spray. Before I blew that one, I was getting 12-16 "HG of vacuum at idle, so not too many leaks.

Just got done testing my vacuum leak fix. here is what I have after fixing some tuning issues and running on center carb only, outer ones blocked off:

Idling smooth at 650-700 RPM
14-15 IN HG vacuum
8* BTDC
Good strong response on throttle.

The vacuum leak seems to have been solved, now I just have to re-attach the outer carbs and see how that runs.

I don't know if you can even get the dual point Mallory any more, the Unilite that Colorado66 has is probably the way to go, I'm looking to convert mine to electronic if I can. I will get the number if you're interested though.

Someone here may be able to answer the question also of if you run any vacuum advance, where you source it from. When I purchased and installed my Offy years ago, Clifford said that I had to use a mechanical advance distributor and the original vac. advance would not work, so I never tried it any other way. I think maybe the thing to do is convert a DSII as Jack outlined, maybe get yourself a second distributor to convert.

See Ya,

getting enough vaccum was going to be my problem which is why I went with the Mallory I got.

Plus the unilite is nice, no more points, smile.
