Well,
I just checked my oil today after drivin for a bit. only the little tip on the dip stick had any on it. I JUST topped it off the other day and now its back to nothin. What is goin on. It does smoke a bit, and it leaks a little oil. The leak is NO-WHERE big enough to do this. What is goin on!?!?!?!? Am I burnin oil, and if so, what do I do? ANy help would be appreciated!!!

Oh, between my last top off and now I have driven to Nashville and back twice, about 35-40 minute drive at about 75-50mph one way. Not enough to use all that oil tho...right?
 
8) it is possible that your engine is developing excessive blow bye and it is blowing the oil out of the seals, gaskets, and or the oil fill cap and dipstick tube.
 
It did. I have always had numerous leaks to take care of, but nothin like this. then the head got clogged and wasnt getting oil, now the oil seems to be goin away. Like I said, it smokes, not aweful bad, but it does smoke, but the smoking is getting better. I do have an oil leak on the fuel pump, but its not that big. I will check the rest next week after finals. Any ideas?

I'm guessing you may have a valve guide seal that isn't seated properly. My old head had that problem.

If not that, try a heaver grade oil. You're engine may just be tired and need a rebuilt. Also, take a look at your rear main seal. You usually won't see it leaking in the driveway, but when moving it can really leak some oil. YOu'll be able to tell when you see it. If it's covered in oil on the outside, it's probably leaking. My current engine's rear main seal is leaking about 1 quart every 800-1000 miles (along with the hole in my oil pan and my leaking oil plug...hehehe...I'll fix those when I put the AUssie head on).

Well, I was hoping to not have to worry about doing anything to the block anytime soon, but looks like things are getting out of hand. I still havnt had time to check anything out while its in the parking garage, but I will try to today sometime. I dont think it smoked before the head was rebuilt, but it smoked alot when I got it back, and has died down a bit. Im not sure, but this oil thing is bothering, and money to rebuild the bottom end is not around. I hope its somethin stupid, or that I can run into some money soon and rebuild the motor. Oh well, Ill find out soon and tell yall what I find.

I had the same problem with my 200. It would go about two weeks and I would have to put a quart in. The leak in the driveway was in no way the size of the oil it was losing. I finally deternimed that the rings were bad and that the oil must be blowing out as I drove down the road. From what I could tell oil was coming out of the dip stick tube and coated that side of the engine. Plus some other gaskets were wet. But like your engine, it sure didn't seem like the amount of oil it was losing was anything close to what was on the engine and pavement.

My fix? The block is back from the machine shop and the rings are waiting to be fitted and the rods/pitons weight matched. Its a bummer, but I think that is the only "for sure" fix. :cry:

I have seen it happen when someone rebuilds either the top or bottom end of an engine. What happens is the rebuild end is in new condition and the other end gets stressed. A rebuilt head can hold more pressure than the lower end can handle causing troubles. If a engine has a lot of miles on it, it is best to just rebuild top and bottom. Just my humble opinion.
 
Without tearing into the engine you should do a compression check and a cylinder leakdown test to see A. how much the rings are holing (Compression) and B. How long they hold the pressure (Leak Down). If that is all in spec then look at the valve seals, but I've seen it before and if ya do the top end then the bottom end blows out.
 
Im not ruling out that the block needs rebuilding, I was just hoping it wouldnt need too for Money's sake. I am going to get it looked at after finals (I have too many stresses as is) and see what happens. Thanx for the help guys, I will let yall know what happens

just my .02 my high-high mileage 200 blows a light blue haze out the pipe when i push it there is always some oil at the dip stick and the filler cap rings are weak and I am sure so are the guides a rebuild is not an option right now I have to pay off the new hip but a fair temporary solution is lucas oil stabilizer the beast used a quart about every tank and a half of gas but now about two and a half tanks for that same quart and it seems to run stronger and it aboslutley loves 93 octane
 
hmmm, ill have to check that out, Ive been meaning to get some lucas in my tranny too. Ill see how it goes, for now, back to studyin STATISTICS, final tomorrow :?
