Oil Light On in Sharp Turn

My oil light flickers on and off going into a sharp turn.

I just changed the oil and filter and it still does it.

Could the oil pump screen have sludge on it?
Could the sending unit be going bad?

Oil level is full.

Thanks

put a $10 mechanical oil pressure gauge in it and see what that tells you. The only real reason to lose pressure in a curve would be low oil-- could be clogged returns causing oil to collect in the head - could be a bare spot on a wire too.

I'm sort of leaning toward a bad sending unit or wire.

Car now does this if I make a quick stop at a traffic,
and then goes off just sitting there.

I have no knocking, pinging, or any noise.

Probably just your oil level sloshing around some. Mine does it if I hit the brakes hard. Try adding another 1/4 quart of oil and see what happens.

Yeah, I think I'll try that.

At 4 1/2 qt. capacity, level is still in between safe & full
mark with more room to go to the full mark.

Thanks

Yeah, mine does it in a hard brake situation. Hell, my carb starves in a hard turn. I guess I have better suspension than my fuel pump can keep up with. This will force me to slow down. My driving record needs the help.

remove the sending unit wire and take it for a spin. the sending unit grounds to turn the light on. if the wire is shorting somewhere it will still light once removed.

I have bad oil sloosh too. these pans could really use a baffle put in them

Added a little more oil to the top side of the safe mark.

After a couple of days, oil light came on & stayed on.

Car started making a rattling type noise. Especially when it shifts
form low to drive.

At idle there is a small rattling, fast light knocking noise.

Does this sound like lack of oil pressure?

Bad oil pump?

I parked it.

Once fixed, will it still be ok without much damage?

Help Needed.

Could be, or maybe clogged passages. I once had an oil pump sieze and broke the oil pump drive shaft. Engine would run but no oil being pumped. I shut it off when I heard the lifters clatering.

I think you should drop the pan and check things. I wouldn't run the engine anymore.

Remover valve cover, started engine and
no oil is coming up top.
I found you might have to wait much longer than i believed possible before oil would be flowing up to the rocker galley. It could easily take a full minute before you can determine if oil is getting to the head.

Good luck with your
small rattling, fast light knocking noise.
. Could be small problem easily fixed - but with me it rarely is the case.

Don't forget to buy a new pick-up tube also. Mine was not brazed correctly and did similar stuff to yours, it was sucking air through the missed spot.

Put new pump on.

Oil light still on.

No oil is getting up to the rocker arms.

Could something be clogged in the oil passage?
Rocker arm shaft? Oil hole coming up to shaft?

Would lack of oil circulating through top keep oil light on?

What would be a good way to unclog the engine?

Any help is always appreciated.

switching to synth if you had good flow already would do it, but i don't know how that would work if you didn't actually have any flow at all...

My 200 did the exact same thing. The light would flicker in turns and come on for a few seconds when I stopped. I also had an oil pressure gauge and it dropped to almost zero whenever the light came on. I never fixed the problem but it most likely is a real oiling problem rather than just a gauge. Keeping the oil completely full helped a little but not much. And it definitely takes a few minutes for oil to reach the rocker arms.

I have used Kerosine / oil mix to flush engines. All the auto part stores sell motor flush. You might try that. It could also be that your motor is just too worn.

I just removed oil sending unit, started it up, and oil pours
out like you wouldn't believe.

Does this mean I could have a restriction maybe in the
head gasket oil port hole or somewhere beyond
the sending unit?
