oil through lifters?

I need to get some lifters for a new cam and motor I am building and was thinking of going to a full roller setup down the road....can I put the oil through lifters in with stock pushrods?

to my understanding, you need the block off plates to run the oil preassure into the pushrods, and therefor just using them might work, as they just wouldn't oil to the rockers, but as the oil is pumped thru the lifters, I'd bet that the lifters would have no oil and never pump up.

btw I was wanting to fire up the motor on stock non adj rockers and switch to adjustable roller tipped ones once broke in. but if it is a pushrod length issue then that just sucks.
