OK
I have a 1966 Mustang that i just purchsed. I have owned several old cars but never a Mustang well never an old Mustang(used to have a 03 gt) so i need some help.
I want to do the whole bit on this car....17" wheels ,air ride susp, custom interior, custom front end ect. ect. but i want to keep the six.Im so tired of going to a car show and seeing a nice cool Mustang and it always has a 289 289 289 289 no ofense but sheeesh i get tire of seeing the same engine in a car over and over.
I would like to know how i can make my 200 L6 run low 14's in the 1/4.
I really dont want to use nitrous. Will i have to use a turbo??Can i do it with bolt ons?? Im not looking for a drag car if i was i use a 351 but i do like getting sideways every now and again so can you help me?
Its a 200 L6 ,Automatic,3.20 rear gear all stock.
The motor feels fairly peppy now but i havent got it past 40mph yet cuz the brakes are shot.
Sorry for the long post.
Matt

8) the first thing you want to do is get the chassis in order. subframe connectors, stringer to connect them to the rocker panels, center cage like the total control products cage, export brace.

next suspension and brakes. since you want 17"wheels, upgrade to 5 bolt wheels, which means V8 spindles, disc brakes in front, big drums or discs in the rear. upgrade to an 8" rear with 3.55 gears. use the stock V8 gt front springs, they are rated at 480in/lbs, and will give you good handling with a decent ride. use a good 4 1/2 leaf spring in the rear.

the 200 can make enough power to run 14's in the 1/4 mile. whether you use a turbo or not will depend on how you want to build the engine. a turbo will make power easily for you, but you need to size it right otherwise you wont get the proper boost response you are looking for. you will also need a wastegate or popoff valve to control the boost, especially if you use a small turbo. adding a megasquirt efi system will also be a big help. classicinlines.com has a good selection of cams to help you make power.

It's going to be hard N/A without the new head (and we don't really know what the new head is going to do NA, either).

Geezer is hasn't been able to get into the 14's NA, and he's got one of the most "wild" N/A 6's on the forum.

But, with the new head and a cam properly selected for that head - it is probably possible.

Boost makes it easy ;)

N/A it will have to be a high compression, med to big cammed screamer.

you should be able to do it N/A but it will be a bit more difficult with the auto trans.

Once these guys get some more testing done with the new head, we should be able to have some better answers on what can be done to get more N/A power out of it.

Boost will get you there no problem. Even on a stock build.
