I am swaping out my rearend from my 65 mustang so i can have a 5 lug pattern to match the front. I got a rearend from a 66 mustang and i want to make sure this is the original rearend for a V-8 mustang. How or what do i look for to identify it?

Thanks
Nazs

look to see if the rear pumpkin has a removable cover. If it does, then it is either an 8" or 9" V-8 rear end.

I hope you meant doesn't, then it's an 8" or 9". If it has a removable cover, then it's most likely the 7 1/4" six cylinder rear (although I suppose it could be either the 7.5 or 8.8 but these were not found in '66 Mustangs).

Ummmmm what is a pumpkin? Sorry for the dumb question i just want to make sure i am correct when looking. And also if the rearend came off another 6 cylinder car wouldn't it be a 4 lug instead of 5 lug or did they make some 6 clyinders with 5 lug?

Thanks

look for a round, center section, it's where the yoke for the driveshaft comes out of, and is in the middle of the whole thing
