Overheating and H/W 5200

Hey all,

I've installed a 5200 from Stovebolt w/ his adapter. It's a tight fit, so I don't have a phrenolic spacer, only gasket material. Also, I'm running the water choke, running it with the hoses that used to head my carb spacer (from t-stat to top of choke, bottom of choke to heater).

I'm overheating, at least that's what my temp gauge says. Do I have the water choke hooked up backwards? Would that even make a difference?

thanks,

HI
It shouldn't make a difference as in the summer the heater is shut off anyways and there would be no water flow to the heater core. I'm not sure how that would efect you choke as with the heater turned off there would be no water flow throu your choke so it might not turn off the way you have it set up.... I'll have to look at my old 61 170 and see how it used to be hooked up...(OH I just remembered it was a manule choke) I'm not using it anymore..I've just about got the 200 ready to fire and the carb I have for it uses header heat for the choke.

I'm sorry, water doesn't flow to the heater core unless the fan is turned on to blow across it?

I assumed the heater core held water in constant circulation. Can someone confirm?

The heater core in my 66 Falcon has constant hot water circulation. I know because if I turn on the vent without turning on the fan/heat the vent is still hotter than the dickens. So I don't turn it on in the summer, I use the other vents. Also, there is no mechanism in my car to keep the water from flowing through the hoses to the heater core. I think on newer cars the water is shut off but on my old car its running all the time.
