For a 10 sec six banger you might want to look up Does 10's and he and his wifes Falcon.

hey, long live built six's. i realy dig my 17 mile to the gallon six and i realy like seeing built six's in old falcons but a 10 second 6 banger is a joke...... p.s is that a t-top notchback in your avitar or am i seeing things.. thanks
 
i stand corrected. there are a few 10 second six bangers, but they are both turbo charged...... i send you a personal SORRY.....
 
i'm not an ass-hole, it just seemed a little out there to me that a 6 banger could go a 10 second quarter mile.....but i was wrong and i will never underestimate a built six again... i am building a six for my falcon and want some performance parts if anyone has them for sale.

You might not have meant to be an a-hole, but trust me, you most definitely WERE being one.

Here's some advice for you, take it or leave it: When asking others for advice, don't take that advice and say it's BS, call the people you're asking for help from "stupid," and insult the subject under discussion.

If you prefer 8's, so be it - I'm not trying to change your mind. We're adults here, we don't need anyone else to agree with what we're doing. But you should realize that most of us aren't building a six because we can't afford an eight. This is our first choice, not a compromise. You don't have to think the six is the best engine ever, but don't expect a lot of help in here if you're going to trash them.

If you really want to learn about the Ford six, this is the single best place to do it. There are some real smart cats here. I hope you learn to appreciate it, I think it's a vastly underrated engine, and one that has a better power to weight ratio than any eight, especially once you factor in MPG. If you decide to stick with it, good luck. If not, there are plenty of places to learn about an 8. This ain't one of them.

i aint changin my mind. i'm building a six........ i was told that the old 6 cylinder 3 speeds are no good is this true... i have a few toploader 3 speeds from v8 cars. will one of those work with a 6 banger or is there a tuffer 6 cylinder 3 speed. thanks

I suggest you stop being an tool and keep quite for a while. Read a little and you might learn something.
 
I don't know trannys real well, especially manuals, but I think the early manual 3-speeds are supposed to be pretty weak. Once you start beefing up the engine, I'd suggest going with something else.

I'm pretty sure you can use the toploader, but you'll have to swap out the bellhousing for sure, and probably the tranny mount too. I'd do a forum search and see what turns up.
 
I can't recall anyone here breaking a 3.03 trans.

Even the T-5, frequently described as "weak" in some quarters, usually seems to experience problems due to either neglect or use of a non-positive stop shifter. You can also get internal upgrade kits for them which make the trans almost bulletproof. A 200 six/T-5 built to be "brisk" on the street but thrifty on the road, should return well over 20MPG when done right.

Someone on the forum blew up a 9" rear with their six, but who? Don't remember, but it was funny. :oops:

The biggest thing about building a six, is not to gear it like an eight! Trying launches with a ratio around five to one, will not work. I think some of the more successful Australian hot sixes were running gear ratios in the high threes and low fours.

My Brother has a 68 Ford F100 with a 300 I6 in it that will smoke a 302. Everyone who rides in his truck will swear he has a V8 under the hood and are really shocked when they see the I6. Ya, the six banger are a kick in the pants if they are set up right.
 
i was told the early transmissions are week by the guy i bought the car from...... he said he replaced it twice. i plan on beating the pee out of this car so i will need a tuff trans....... thats why i ask if a v8 trans will work. i was also thinking of a t-5 but i have 4 foxbody mustangs all of them have t-5's......... so i want somthing differnt...... i have a toploader 4 speed from a 71 mustang but i am saving that for one day when i build a 60's mustang...... thanks
