Just installed a 200 in my 62 falcon with a C4. I need to remove the pilot bearing in the crank so the converter will bolt up to the flex plate. How do I remove the pilot bearing?

There is a special tool for it you can borrow at most auto stores. It looks like a slide hammer, but with a cople of little arms on it ot grip the inside of the bearing.

Make sure it's not already out... Someone here destroyed a crank once thinking the pilot bearing was still in.

Find or trim a wooden dowel so that it will just fit into the pilot bearing. Use a grease gun to inject a few zerks of grease behind the bearing, enough to fill the space behind the bearing. Insert dowel and whack with a hammer or mallet. The bearing should pop right out (and possibly get grease all over your face).

I can see the bearing is still in the crank, the torque converter is hitting it and that is keeping me from installing my C4. I have some time off today so I will try my luck. Thanks for all the reply's

I use a washer a big socket and a long bolt. Hook the washer on the bottom off the bearing. Put the socket over the bolt and make put a washer/nut on it. Tighten the nut to pull the bearing into the socket.

I don't know the size you would need for the Ford, but the best way I have used on my Chevy is to use a bottom tap that is a bit bigger than the ID of the bushing. The tap with thread into the soft bushing and when it bottoms out on the crank, the bushing is screwed out. Works like a champ. An old timer engine builder passed that one along to me.

It is OUT! I tapped some threads into the bearing and put a long bolt in it so when it hit the inside of the crank it pushed it out. Now it is time to manhandle the C4 in there. Wish me luck
