OK got this hopped up 200 with a T-5- when i was still messing around getting things adjusted properly it would occasionally show astounding power and revability. Got her settled in and it runs great, real good power --just not what it was exhibiting on those odd occasions early on when i was fiddling around trying to get everything compatible.
Yesterday on the way to work the throttle cable gave it up--throttle set-up is a POS summit 1 size fits all thing that has always been a pain. Well i cranked the idle screw to 2100 rpm and made the last 4 miles to work-stopped at the NAPA on the way and ordered a cable from a cat. picture and it came in at 3:00, got it on (with nothing but a leatherman tool). well apparently the old cable had been losing a strand at a time and streeetttcchhing cause all of a sudden i got 50-75 more HP than i did the day before. 6000rpm is RIGHT NOW. I have owned many SBF and SMC v-8's in my life and a stock one would not touch this little 200.
Morale of this story? never give up before the miracle happens! and watch the little things.
I bet i have not had the carbs opened all the way in 2000 miles.

People say "THAT WON'T FIT" but i say--"I have sawzalls, cutting torch, grinders and a welder so i'm sure it will fit just fine--eventually--."

Now you need to change your tag line to include a Leatherman tool too! :D

When I was in the Air Force, my sister bought a VW Golf. She loved it and it was a really good 40mpg car while she was in school. One time on leave, I drove it and was astonished at how slow it was; no pick-up. I popped the hood and found the throttle cable loose. I zip tied it down so now when you hit the pedal, it would stay put only allowing the actual cable to slide and open the gas. Well, needless to say, it sped like a skalded pony after that. It was so quick and zippy. She had to alter her driving style.

Glad you solved your problem.

I had a couple of throttle cable problems in college on borrowed cars. My dad drove my '73 (inline 6) Comet and decided it was unsafe to return back to school (the suspension was worn and the car could change lanes while you held the steering wheel straight). So he gave me his new Chrysler New Yorker for a month. Well I drove it from dry W Texas to humid College Station and within a week or so I was having trouble getting over 45 mph. I thought I had broken it somehow. Took it to the dealer, and the throttle cable had rusted. Ran great after that.

Another time I borrowed my room mates VW. The end of the cable pulled off and I had to rig a pair of vise grips up to use as the gas pedal in order to get home.
