Project Car update

The 69FB made is deput yesterday at the CopperState Mustang Club show. Its been a lot of work getting it to this point in just a few weeks. We still don't have it running, but were getting close. As for the car, its about 90% completed, and looking pretty good.

The show was a success and we had a steady pace of people from 9am till 3pm. Show management was were worried about attendance, as there was an air show at Luke AFB, a huge car show at the new statium, and a big race event at Firebird yesterday. But I think the attendance was up from the past three years, and we had about 200 cars. It also seem to help, being right across from Home Depot, as a lot of people walked over from there. Plus it was a hot day yesterday, mid 90's, fortunately we were in the last row and had good shade most of the day. All in all, it was a great show for us and the 69FB.

We got a lot of positive comments, on the car and especially the engine. It was fun to watch people walk up and take a peak at the engine bay, then watch the eyebrows raise up. Several times we'd notice someone come back for a second or third look, with friends in tow.

As I said, its not running yet, but we hope to resolve that in a few more weeks. The biggest problem is finding the time to work on it. Plus I have to tow it down to Tucson, as we are working on the motor at Will place. Next weekend Will and Kelly, and myself, will be at Firebird Raceway for Fun Ford Weekend. Kelly will be racing the Falcon, and I'll be showing the 69FB. However, I think the following weekend is free. I've been working on the body and interior weekdays after work, when I have a chance.

Still to do, finish up the engine, install rear spoiler and misc parts, install roll bar and harnesses, lower it 2 inches, and install the traction bars. Oh yea, install all the decals, numbering, and the company/sponser logos. So it looks official.

Some of the pics were taken here at home (with the car on the trailer, just before heading out) the rest at the show.

Mike,

The 69 looks great! The body and paint are fantastic, but can't compare to the engine bay. This car is just the ticket to bring more attention to those of us with the inline six.

What a sensational beast that is. Great work!

The quick, causual observer just sees a very big six cylinder.

Then they see a wierd triple throttle body intake.

Then an alloy head,
Then a kick ass ignition,
Then, oh lordy, a freekin big turbo hangin off the thing.

It's got a kicker in every detail, unlike any engine you'll ever find. Its a killer.

What is more, you can start with a stock, numbers match cooking Ford engine, shove some 100% Ford designed parts on, and not have to worry about gutting a classic car out and fitting a whole new special suspesnion. Everything is a gradual evolution of the orginal lightweight Mustang formula

Hey Ford. Looks like your 420 hp all alloy 5.0 Cammer crate motor has some serious 37 year old competion, and its gonna kick your hiney! At least its from us and not Chevrolet.

That's funny, and pretty accurate. Most would walk up, saying "OH, an inline six". Then comment on the tripple TBI. Then injection. Then say "Oh S*^&*, its turbo charged too. Holy crap.

Most didn't notice the alloy head, until they read the spec sheet. That was the best part, and you always knew when they got to the projected numbers, because the eyebrows lifted up everytime. Most were in shock, and had a difficult time thinking it was just a LITTLE FORD SIX

The guys that came back for seconds, would point out all the details to their friends. Most stood over the motor for several minutes, just shaking their heads in disbelief. Even the hard core guys.

Alot of them comment on how nicely it fills up the engine bay. The DUI plays a big part on that and looks very much at home. Whereas, a stock dizzy would look sick and lonely, in comparrison. I'm thinking about switching to a red cap, as it would set it off nicely and add just a hint more of the red already present.

This is brilliant stuff, Mike. You have no idea what you've help start!

Remember Ford Total Performances catch cry in the mid sixties? Something like

"Fords magical elixir, in ten strengths to 306 hp"

You've just found the bottle Ford lost, and added another 50% more punch. Don't rush it. When the formula kicks in, everyones gonna be knocked to the floor.

The key is that this is something which scales up like nothing I've ever seen. Every level of performance Ford I6, from mild to wild, is put together in that package. There is something for everyone. Just like the first 170 cube poverty pack Mustang, you could dream GT 350 into it as you cruised the highway, and be proud of it as it was. With your car, its a cataclysmic combination, becasue its a reality.

Any one with a Ford I6 can afford at least one part, maybee the ignition, perhaps the valve cover, maybee just the turbo, maybee the head but every red blooded person would really love the whole package. Imagine that package in a 1962 round body, or a trim 2-door Maverick, or 1978 Ford Granada 2-door, or 1979 Mustang 3.3 or 1983 Fairmont that plenty of us have laying around.

There is an arable source of 10 000 million six cylinder cars waiting for your elixir.

Gotta endorse xcstasy's sentiments.

I was looking at a local forum yesterday where this young guy ( 18 ) was showing off the beautiful original XT (68-69 Falcon) he'd just bought off some farmer in Qld. It's a 221 and of course the discussion turned to how long until the V8 goes in

May the day be not too far away that the question is rather what is the first thing are you gonna buy from classic inlines to make that 221 hum?

"Gotta endorse xcstasy's sentiments."

This is it exactly. I can't help but to think my custom is very original in the appearance department. No one has really done the mods in the same flavor I have. As for under the hood, mine is nothing more than a daily driver with a few reliability upgrades.
The engine you display here is begging to be seen under my hood. I can easily imagine what that might be like upon cracking the hood.
I guess down the road, when I have other means to travel, I may start the garage build for my "new" engine.

Very nice work and I can't wait to see the numbers and hear the screams!

I agree too,I'm waiting for some one to put a motor like the one in the 69 in a foxbody and go do some serious butt kickin at the strip  I have yet to see a foxbody out this way with anything done to the six.

I don't know if this is a job, or a hobby. Its to much fun to be considered work, but if I quit the day job (in the near future) and let FSP pay the bills, then wouldn't I have to consider it a job. :D

Wait till you see my next creation. It's already underway, but won't be ready to unvail until later this spring. A Fox body might be possible, either that or my 66 coupe.

If you love your work it's not a job it's a 'Calling'. 8)

Thanks,
Ken

I'm sorry,
Ken

:D I can't help but think that Travis is smiling down on Mike and what he has done for our little community. Thanks Mike and keep up the good work
