Pulling Oil Pan

Long story, short version. Need to pull the oil pan on son's 66 200ci automatic Mustang. I can see I need to remove cross member and sway bar. Can I get the pan off with it still in vehicle? Sounds/feels like #6 rod hitting oil pan, no warning. Engine was and still is running fine. This happened while it was on a lift having tranny rebuilt. Tranny was pulled again and not in the tranny.

Can be done with some work you may need to unbolt engine and raise one side, and or drop oil pickup tube off pump. You could also drop the tie rod center link down or out of the way

If you have a stock oil pan with no extra oil baffles, all you need to do is undo the idler arm from the frame & that will allow enough clearance to drop the pan since you already have the front sway bar off.

When you have the pan down, make sure you see visual contact at the bottom of the pan & #6 rod???

I would be suprised if you need to even remove motor mounts & remove the oil pump.

The oil pan at the rear of the engine is very close to the pan.

You may have to rotate the crankshaft to gain more clearance to remove the pan. Bill

Crossmember, sway bar from frame and one end of tie rod where it mounts to pitman arm and it came right out. As suspected, rod hitting dent in oil pan. It was dented before but tranny guy must have dented it again just enough to hit. All back together, but had to order another case of oil so it'll be morning before I can fire her up. 99.9% sure she's fixed. Couldn't find anything else wrong. Thanks guy's.
