Question about a turbo

I hate to go back to what I used to do of finding cheap turbos on ebay and not researching anything at all and asking if it would work... well... I was browsing tonight (well technically morning) and saw a complete turbo system off a 91 probe gt... 2.2l, would that be something too small? it says "It is a stock IHI turbo which produces 10-15psi in a stock probe" its a pickup only item and is at 50 bucks so if it might work or could work it could possibly make it under my hood... comes with the intercooler, stock air bypass valve, the piping, and the stock down pipe as well as the manifold. sooo whattya think?

Almost any turbo from any small engine will "work". Will it be optimal? Maybe, maybe not. That's why you have to look at compressor maps and intended engine use to decide what fits best.

But, that said, almost anything from a 2.0 to 5.0 liter turbocharged anything will make boost on your 200 if you bolt it on. The real difference is in how much boost and how much lag you will get.

well thats pretty much what I Was wanting to know.. just that it wouldnt be too little. I cant runs alot of boost because of my compression, just give me some more pickup... and when its all setup if I need to in the future I could upgrade... and if in the end it doesnt work... or something makes it impossible maybe Ill maybe a turbo caravan or something... well I am off to win a budget turbo.. only an hour to go... *I am the high bidder at 51.00

the nice thing about IHI turbos is that the wastegate is built into the turbine housing and not the elbow like a T3. Also it does use the same flange as a T3 for mounting so it will be easy to upgrade. I know some of the probe guys use the tbird ihi as an upgrade. I think it will work pretty good. My t3 is a little slow to spool up right now but I think getting the boost turned up higher will help.

You going to roun lake, Ill to pick it up?? :?:

Maybe he will unbolt the exhaust man so it isn't so heavy.

That thing is really small.
It'll build boost fast then fall on its face.

I thought you were LEARNING from us!! Guess not... :stick:

Round Lake is right down the road from me

Shouldn't be too much to ship though. Azcoupe just sent me a C4 bell with UPS and it cost about 35 bucks and it weighs 40 lbs.

nope hes shipping it which is why I believe there was a lack of bids... well linc I figured I was gonna boost early and hopefully not fall on my face... sooo what rpm do you think itll fall on its face? right now Im shifting 5100 or so but it has nothing low end... once it gets to 2000 or so it takes off very good for spilling stuff on your passengers as their trying to drink.. it was an accident I swear  .... ummm I told him not to ship the manifold but my dad said to tell him to because of the flange which I thought I woudl buy off ebay and save the shipping but I emailed him and said if its not to late to include it... umm now I have to research all the little things and dont be suprised if you get a few pms...

well mine doesn't get going right off the bat...but once it gets going.....

my wastegate line got knocked off today and amde a couple nice pulls at higher boost (just hoping in traffic) I really feel that there is ALOT more within my car right now but I need ot get the 4 link in first and an intercooler

ihi-warner won't offically release their maps....

BUT here at school we sourced one form them for the FSAE car and have a nice BINDER full oif IHI maps and all....just need the compressor and turbine info and I can hook you up

That's cool!

One other thing I would be worried about is the turbine trim.

I am trying to determine if my "O" trim turbine is a restriction - - - and that is with a 2-1/2" (outlet) wheel!! I may move up to a "P" trim wheel (this is all Garrett turbo speak) to let the engine breath. I have to do some experimenting when I build the new engine.

Yours is bound to be much smaller....

Get as many measurements of both of the wheels that you can.

well I guess well see when it gets here.... now according to my "sources" the less boost I run the higher up itll make it withought faceplanting correct? I am not gonna see no 20# like you linc... I dont think my setup would care for that... I am planning on 8 for now and not running the intercooler. Then maybe I will get it all setup and run with it... itll be alot of trial and hopefully not too much error... I may need some help getting the measurements right... and hopefully well find out this turbo is better than everyones elses and it will make 5000 hp and my car really will be eleventy billion times faster than everyone elses... overall I would like to see 200 hp at the wheels that woudl mean for about a tripling of HP over stock... I think it could be close if it was all tuned

You see, That is why I think the .48 turbine might have a better chance...we will see. Back to the garage.

Correct me if im wrong but doesen't a stock 68 I6 put out about 120hp? I really don't mean to nit-pick here I'm just anal when it comes to numbers (I think its the engineer in me :) ). Anyway here is a link to all the engine hp's of the early mustangs http://4wheelz.net/ford/retro/mustang/en/ford_mustang_1968.htm

that 120 is flywheel and in fudged conditions (no exhaust or accessories) I think tommy is talking 200 rwhp

so take that 120 that is more like 100-110 and take the 20% driveline loss...then you are around 80-90 hp

now my smog motor I am running with 7.5:1 compression prob was only making 70hp tops at the wheels....and I feel it has it in there for 200hp once tuned....that is nearly TRIPLED

my car used to be soooo slow... I mean I woul dhave it to the floor takign off from alight and would have ol... elderly ladies taking off faster... no joke.. when I floored it you couldnt tell a difference after about 30.... people thought I was joking... now on the otherhand... I can at least make people realise I am taking off fast.. I messed wiht a v6 stang and I kept up with him in traffic I dont think he had it floored though.... I am guessing I have 100 maybe a little more hp... its just a dog taking off I am thinking the cam is degreeed wrong at 30 flooring it it PUTS you in your seat from a stand still it wont spin the tires... I am goign to order a degreeing kit and I still have to make that burnout video I owe you all... I have said I was gonna do one forever I just couldnt for awhile....
