I went for a cruise and noticed my voltage reads 11volts(12 at start-up) as soon as the fan comes on. I then turned on the headlights and plugged in the cell phone and it did not dip below 11...

The battery has been sittin around for a bout a month and a half or so. I remember WinALDL was reading 12-14.5 before I did the electrical. Do I need a long road trip to recharge the battery

I can't find my WinALDL connector...

How hot is too hot for the engine oil reading...

Sounds more like your voltage regulator is not doing its job. Don't know about Delco, but I have seen a problem with rebulit Ford alternators. The rebuilders don't routinely replace the internal regulators. Many electronic units will work fine when cool, but stop working when hot. I had to pull the alternator hot and take it to the parts store to test hot. Sure enough, it failed hot, although it had tested OK when cold. Just a thought.

It's a brand new 94 amp alternator from autozone (was looking for a descent warranty for this particular part). I'll keep my eyes on the voltage gauge and if it does not improve, I'm going down the avenue you suggested.

As for oil temps it depends. It has to get hot enough to burn off moisture and impurities in the oil, but not hot enough to begin breaking down. Oil vaporizes at 350 degrees fairenheit but can begin beaking down at temps as low as 250 F. IIRC metal begins to deteriorate at about 260F. So I'd say try to keep it no higher than 230 to be safe. I'm just guessing here so you may want a second opinion.

Gracias again for the help.

I called E-Z and I have to connect the excitor wire. He mentioned that if it is not internally regulated (?), I will have to run the excitor wire. I'll double check the part # as soon as I get home. This excitor wire charges the system...

BTW...cool page on the reference to motor oil... Wish I was better at the sciences... :?

This other hometown mentioned the same thing. He thinks 220-230 is safe, then anything after that is cooking time...
