I am adding a tach on my 200 inline.
Swapping out my C4 auto for a T5 5 speed.
My engine is stock 1968.
What should I mark as a redline on my new tach?
Sorry if this is common knowledge. I searched all over this forum. I am new to this. I can't find what it should be.
All I have is that my motor is rated 120HP @ 4400rpm. So, apparently it can go to 4400?
Thank you for feedback.

4500rpm is about right, you will find that the power dies after that. The valve train probably wont allow much RPM over that in any event, tachometer is mostly of academic interest for these engines. In stock form they cant rev high enough to do themselves any damage.

Thank you for the response.
Could you expand on what you mean by "In stock form they cant rev high enough to do themselves any damage."?
Are you saying that my autolite 1100 can not supply enough fire water to get to 5000rpms? Or is it limited by the exhaust header?

YES and YES, and the valve springs usually will govern the engine. Most people find that the stock rods and pistons can cope with 6000rpm without much worry. The old "log head" is terribly restrictive and is a major limit on output. As a for instance, our Australian Barras are 4litres and will go 260bhp around 5200rpm in stock trim, the old log head 4.1 (basically the same bore and stroke) will give about 120bhp @3750, the major difference is breathing.

In 1 wrd "design" BUT...

any 'system' can not B defined by 1 wrd, needs a long sentence or even a paragraph. There was no
need for a modern machine at that time ('58/9... just something to beat the ve dub bug as it desimated
the amer auto industry). We can start as our friend frm Oz has: intake (log here). Add cam, and go on for
almost 80% of parts ("1 part ofa system effects all others"). The Thriftpower (cept the 144 in my opinion) has
a beefy bottom end tho (again in my opinion. Beef up rod bolts). 'S kouwell there so many just improve the other parts...
