I just bid on ebay for a 250 short block, thinking down the line to when the new FSPP head becomes available. From what I've read the 250 is wider than the 200 in my '69; does anyone know what motor mounts will work? Or will I have to fabricate my own?
The 250 is approximately 1.5†wider at the motor mount bosses. The original Mustang mounts can be used, but they will place the engine higher in the compartment because of the way the brackets are angled. Elongating the bolt holes in the engine mounts to allow the engine to drop slightly will help, but the proper solution is to use Maverick 250 mounts and brackets. The Maverick mounts are designed differently and will require new bolt holes in the frame.
I'll have to go back and look, but I believe my cross member can be removed. In '69, only the 170 and 200 were offered as far as sixes go, with the 302 being the V8 option.
In that case I would suggest that you go a dismantler or parts store and pick up a set of Maverick mounts and brackets for the 250 and drill new bolt holes in the frame. 8)
