Rocker arm disassembly?

i saw a reference to using a 12 piont wrench slightly bigger than the shaft and a big ford wrench and some gentle persuation...

or slide a wrench over the shaft and whack the heck out of it if your not the subtle type

myself i'd soak/boil it and heat cycle it a few times to get it to break first

I just had an adjustable rocker arm that I bought off ebay cleaned up.
I thought it could be hot-tanked, but fortunately the guy I took it to said the pedestals were aluminum and would be destroyed. This thing was caked in thick sludge. He took the arms off and put them in a solvent tumbler with little metal barrel shaped thingies (not sure of the technical name), and polished up the shaft a bit.
Good as new, or close enough for jazz anyway. Didn't take the adjusters out to clean the threads, and was wondering if I should, or just leave them as is? The thought here is that maybe cleaning them would free them up too much? I have a tap and die set and could chase the threads but perhaps that's not a good idea?

Definitely not a good idea. They need to be really tight, so they don't loosen up. Otherwise you may need to install a lock nut.

WEll I think I know why I am having trouble. It took a lot of force to break loose the bolts holding the pedastals down. I think a P/O of the car had overtightened the bolts and clamped the pedastals onto the rocker shaft. No bother though I just cleaned it up the best I could and the two rockers onthe ends that I was able to pull showed almost no wear on the shaft. Thanks for all of the ideas!!
