I know when you crank a car up that is cold it idels higher to warm the engine and when you would gas it alil it would come down on the idel. well when i took my carb apart to clean it last when i crank it up it starts at a high rpm but when i gas it alil it doesent lower the rpms, even when it nice and warm. i can drive it around after knocking the idel down with my finger on the carb, but as soon as i gas it, it goes back up to running at a high rpm. what did i screw up when i cleaned it?

Sounds like you may have missed a return spring.. check the linkage for a spring hanging loose or one hanging loose close by.. More infor on what you have for a carb would also help

its the stock single barrel carb that came on the 1965 200 I6 Mustangs.

OK that just leave a few choices.. but Im betting the choke is manual. And If you can push on the thottle arm to lower the idle.. Id say its a return sprin than.. Ither the one on the carb ( I dont relay on just that one myself) Or one on the linkage somewhere.. ( This is the one I have my money on ) Or it a few cases it might be the butterfly my be sticking a little ( WD-40 should fix that )

OK
1) If its an automatic choke there should be a heat tube (about a 1/4 copper tube) that comes off of it and goes to the exhaust manifold (this is what heats it up so it will come off when the motor is warmed up).. is this hooked up??
2) when you put it back together maybe you didn't get the choke installed or adjusted corectly. when it warms up does the choke butterfly open up or does it stay closed??

i got it fixed. the vacum line coming from the bottom of the distributor had come off, after putting that back on i turned the choke a little and set it back in place and that fixed it. Shes purrring like a kitten now. Thanks for your help guys.
