I have a 1959 fairlane galaxie 500 it has an inline six with an automatic transmission. I noticed that someone fabricated the engine mounts so I knew the engine was not original. Someone told me that this car came from factory with a 292 cu.in because of the serial number on the body. My question is where can I find the serial number in this block and what the numbers mean. in other words, wich numbers or letters in the serial will be able to tell me whether the engine is a 232, 260 etc. My engine is missing the starter, I understand that in some engines the starter mounts directly to the housing, while others the starter bolts behind the housing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tony.
