I just started adding up what I have bought and what I have yet to buy and I was amazed at the cost. I won't post the figures, but to get the head I want with rocker, cam, lifters, valves and extras + the machine work I will have about 1200 to 1600 (depending on what rocker I choose) into the top alone. That is with me doing all the porting and putting together-----Is that about average for a six cylinder log head..I already have around $800.00 in the bottom with pretty much stock pistons and rods & that includes my mechanics labor. Is that about average or maybe a little better? I plan on having the engine in and running this summer, time and money permitting. Outside of the engine my costs come to:
$250.00 for new wiring under hood
$500.00 Granada disc and V8 suspension
$800.00 9" LV rear and disc brake set up (rebuilt cal. and new rotors w/o
gears.
$2100.00 for full replacement of floor pans and quartes from doors to tail.
I paid a whopping $3500.00 for the car when I bought it. But I didn't realize the floor was in such bad shape because the guy I bought it from had completely replaced the interior and had glued the new carpet over the old carpet to give it that plush feel--little did I know that it had rusted completely through in several places. Also after the purchase I found where he had torn the vinyl over the dash and on the seat cover. But the car ran great and he had had the little 2.77 manual rebuilt (so he said). But all in all I feel this is a little much for it to still be up on jack stands.
Around $10,000.00
Outside of paying too much for the car to begin with, how do you all think I am doing.
