I had some time on my hands and a problem that needed fixing. I'm going to be installing a T5 in my mustang next week but I still had a problem to overcome, the front bearing retainer. Since my transmission is a 4cyl T5, steel bearing retainers are not available, only aluminum ones. After taking one look at the original aluminum bearing retainer I knew that wasn't gonna be a good idea. So, I bought an all steel V8 T5 front bearing retainer and figured I could make it work. After comparing the two retainers with my caliper, I found that the depth and width of the hole for the front bearing was larger for the 4cyl retainer than the V8 retainer. Also, the tube inner diameter was smaller for the V8 retainer. So, I threw the V8 retainer on my lathe and voala! a 4cyl T5 with a steel bearing retainer. We'll see if it blows up or anything after I install it :D

Nice looking job, but interestingly enough, my NWC turbo coupe T-5 bearing retainer and the WC T-5 in the Mustang were the same diameter and an off-the-shelf steel replacement bolted on.

This tranny is a 1987 T5 from a turbo coupe, this is a WC model right? Would of been nice to just swap a new retainer on, such a few simple modifications took hours on the lathe.

Should be a WC. The one I have in the Locost was from an 83 turbo coupe, so I know it was NWC.

The other transmission in the coupe is a WC T-5Z. But both had the same inputs. Interesting. Just goes to show that you can never say never (or always) with a Ford part.... :?

nice job , sometimes just simple thinking is enough. let us know how the project is going .
