Split push rod?

I don't know if anyone else here has experienced this or not. Could be a fluke or I'm into a good sum of money chrome-moly push rods :( Either or, dialed the car in and had a GREAT afternoon with it. Next morning it started and ran like a dog. I figured I filled up with some bad gas the night before but it felt like one or maybe two cylinders were missing. Long story short, spark plugs started to tell the tale, compression gone in one cylinder, pop cover and pushrod slipped out...wait...not slipped out, the cup end SPLIT in half! This is with a 1.6 rocker set on a stock cam, car NEVER sees past 4.5K (I'm a chicken when it comes to throwing money away). Sealed Power push rods that are brand new, think I need to go C_M or just try another replacement one?

The scary part is I can't find the rest of the push rod  I hope it got disentigrated but somehow I feel it didn't.
This is new stuff to me as I've always run hydraulic stuff, ANY advice is going to be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately IMHO I would pull the head.

Only reason I can think of pushrod splitting is that something bound up causing too much pressure on the end of the pushrod.

Are the rockers moving freely on the shaft? Is anything bound up? Do you have any stuck valves?

Of course, I was looking for an easy way out of this one. Yup fellas, tear down time. The dog-gone starter quit aftter I put the new push rod in. Anyone looking for an Oz head? This one is pretty much race only.

Gee, my old OE styled pushrods seem to be working fine and I have the money that I would have WASTED on those crap things in my pocket.

Come on guys, it's an INLINE 6 not a Mercedes Turbo Diesel.

I've got another one but the store took the old one so they could "defect" it out. Never thought of the picture. These aren't OE pieces they are Sealed Power which, by the way, I've had good luck with in the past. Times are a changing though. Now I need to get the starter out which I'm guessing is going to mean ripping off the side of the engine. I looked for a PMGR starter but didn't see any online, I'm going to call PA today and see what they might have. I used one of theirs on the Bronco and love it. Hot/cold, timing too advanced...it doesn't care, you turn the key and it's going to spin the engine.

If you bent a push rod, could you have bent a valve also??

Oh geeze, don't EVEN do that too me! Man, what did I do to you?

I would think if the timing chain let go or something it might have bent a valve. I think the pushrod got bent up in there because the cup split and it was jangling around in there with many forces on it. At least that is what I'm hoping, wasn't banged up too bad.

By "crap things" you are meaning the chrome-moly? I wouldn't think I need those either, I don't take it past 4500 rpms (as the quality tach in my dash says) so I'm guessing it was just defective. Now, to find that other piece :hmmm:

The other piece you might be missing is I went from a hydraulic set up to an adjustable set up to compensate for the different head. This thing is double springed and has the full gamut, ported/polished yadda, yadda....
