1973 Maverick 250/ C4, Holley 5200 on adapter, DSII, 6 into 1 header with Y pipe and dual generic flow masters.

The car runs great....MOST of the time. It does sometimes stall though or slowly die and goes dead while driving. It does this driving along at any speed or condition, doesn't seem to be temperature related as it can happen within the first mile. After the engine begins to stall you can let off and sometimes it will return to idle, sometimes not. If you stop, it will always restart immediately but will stall again in a short distance. It normally does this 2 to 3 times then runs normally again, maybe for a few days at a time. Any ideas? It has a new carburetor that runs great, new fuel pump, rubber lines, fuel filter and new plugs. It does it with or without the gas cap on. I've blown out the tank vernt line, etc. All of the ignition components were installed "used" from a donar car and have previously given good service.
Could this be ignition related eventhough it "feels" like fuel?
Thanks for any help guys.

Gosh. Maybe somethin' in the tank? There is usually a "sock" on the end of the fuel sender in the tank that is supposed to act as a filter, and this eventually gets clogged/rots and can sporadically block fuel. Other than that, I'm stumped. Good luck.

A fuel pressure gauge will tell you a lot. Use a fluid-fluid decoupler like Autometer sell, and you can route the gauge inside your cabin safely.

Kinda sounds like junk in the tank.Have you had the tank cleaned?I had a similar problem with a 74'mav I use to have car had sat for quite awhile be fore I got it and would just cutout.Finaly replaced the tank with a fuelcell. solved the problem.

the 'crap in the tank' theory sounds very likely. Piece of trash gets sucked up and caps off the fuel line, shut it off suction goes away, trash falls back down. go down the road gas sloshes around trash occasionally flows back close enough to get sucked up again. Have heard of this a few times. No real easy way to verify- cept maybe run a fuel line from the pump to a gas can in the trunk bypassing the tank and see if the problem goes away, if so remove gas tank and takes measures to eliminate problem.
Be carefull of course of gas fumes in trunk. I ran an Opal Kadet off a gas can for a couple years-- I took a larger than fuel line hose, cut hole in it ran fuel line through hole, glue sealed it shut and ran hose outside of car to vent.(opals usually had lots of holes in the trunk floor as they were bad to rust.)
