Started upgrading the ignition

Hi,

I have finally begun to start the electronic ignition upgrade. Yesterday I gapped the new Autolite spark plugs to .050. I then removed/replaced the spark plugs one at a time.

Damage Report:

Four Autolite plugs, two Champion plugs
Oil, rust, and some unknown substance on most of the plugs.
All plugs were gapped at approximately .030. One of the plugs was closer to .020.

I also removed the thirty-eight year old coil and coil clamp. I cleaned the paint, oil, and grease from the clamp with steel wool...great stuff.

That is all I finished that day. Today I started to install the Pertronix Ignitor. I have it in place but I do not have the wires hooked up because I have not completely installed the new Flamethrower coil. I primed and painted (black hi-temp engine paint) the coil clamp to match the Flamethrower coil. I bolted in the coil clamp and got the coil in place. I did not get it completely tightened becasue it was time for dinner (I did not have anything to eat since breakfast and it was 7:30 ). I hope to finish up tomorrow morning with the exception of new spark plug wires which are on thier way from Wisconsin. I ordered Bosch spark plug wires for about $24.00. This made me happy because if I bought original style wires I would be paying about $40.00. This will be the last project for the summer. I have hardly driven the Mustang at all this summer and I am mad at myself for that. My next show is September 4th. Lets see if I can screw somthing up by then.

Thanks,

Justin

The ignition now? Heck, you are goooooood!

Thanks

I am now awaiting the arrival of the spark plug wires. They should be here Friday or Saturday. After they arrive I can fire the Mustang up and see how it goes. :D
