Strange fuel problem?

My car looses all fuel pressure after I have been driving for a while... Most of the time it is fine but after I have been driving for a bit it will shut off and not want to start back up because there is no gas at the carb.

I have a brand new fuel pump (just replaced it thinking that it would fix the problem) the sending unit in the tank is new I have a inline pressure gauge right at the carb and it reads 5psi most of the time (when it stalls due to no gas I can get it started momentarily and it reads 0) I have 2 fuel filters one at tank and a clear glass one with a replaceable element next to the pressure gauge. If I leave the car off and come back a little while later is starts up just fine and runs for a while until it gets no pressure again.

I cant figure out why all of the sudden no gas is getting to the engine? any ideas?

Try running it with your gas cap off and see how it works. Could be a bad cap or a blocked tank vent.

sounds about right. My Stang did that to me once. Over filled the tank, got the cap wet with fuel, atmospheric valve inside stuck shut. Car died about 10 miles from the gas station. Same glass filter at the carb, no gas in it. Sat there for a few minutes, pondering the problem, when I saw gas start to perk into the filter.... went around back, twisted the cap, and heard the telltale "schwiiip!" of pressure equalization. Went back around front, filter was full... cranked a little long, fired right up.
