I want to get a T-5 transmission and found a bunch of different kinds like the non world class, world class, borg warner, etc.

which one of these is the one i need if i don't want to change my stock 3.20 rear end gears.

if i get one that doesn't have a 10 spline in the front and a 28 spline in the back can i change them?

what do i need to look for when i go to the salvage yard this next week

i planned on pulling one from a 4 cylinder mustang. wha else did they come in?

check out my website and leave me a post or let me know hear what you think of my car.

I was planning on doing the swap but never did. However, I did do alot od research on it. Im my opinion from the info I got, the 4 cylinder tranny would be just fine. The v8 tranny had higher gear ratios since the v8 had more torque. The 4 cylinder should hold up fine if your 6 isn't modified to much. The spline can (as far as I know) be changed but it may be more work than its worth. Also I guess you already know about the different bolt patterns on the diff. year 6's. Also, ideally i may want to pull the tranny yourself because there are many clutch parts that you may need. Another donor car that may be worth keeping an eye open for is a 280zx. The 5 spds had a borg-warner t5. Odd isn't it. I believe this is reliable info but its easy to double check. Hope that answers some questions.

the only reason i'm doing it is cause i took out the old three speed and completly disassmbled it and all the gears needed to be replaced if i don't want to go back in and replace them later. and i figured it would be alot cheaper just going ahead and doing it now instead of rebuilding the 3 speed then getting a T-5 from a junkyard and rebuilding that later.

plus i'll probably save alot on gas in the long run

but will i still be able to smoke the tires with the new gear ratio

with the 3.20 gear you might not want a 4cyl box. I haved a 3.50 gear and it is WAY low in first. but the box I have has the lowest first outof all yeasr so it might just be that

I have 3.25 gears in my Ranchero and have the 3.97 ratio first 4-cyl box from a 87 Turbo T-Bird. Even though first is a little short I like this combo. I have a steep driveway and the lower first really helps out pulling the hill.

The Nissan T5 transmission has a longer input shft with different clutch splines. The transmission mount is in a slightly differnt location and the speedometer is on the opposite side. It would be difficult, but not impossible, to make it work in a Mustang. The input could be swapped, but after all that it would be easier and cheaper to just get the Mustang box.

The 87-93 4cyl Mustang T-5 has a 3.97 first gear that works great with gears from 2.73 to 3.50. It would feel way to short with 3.73 or higher gears.

yeah I think my box has a 4.03 or 4.30 gear (84 tbird box) I can acutally drive at 10mpg without it trailer hitching (will idle around 5mph)

it's redfire clearcoat metallic, i think the color code is g2 from ford. it's off of the 2004 cobra

Just a nod to the prez.....yes get the Ford T5 from the 4cyl mustangs. I got mine from a 92 and it fit fine. However, be forewarned..it costs some bucks for the spline, pilot bearing, flange adapter, balancing the shaft, tranny mount, cables, etc...so if you go...go all in. You will not be dissappointed in the least. The 5spd is the best upgrade for the six that money can buy.

well my stock one fit.....but I have an 8" with large ujounts....and it is a tad long.....it could use 1" out of it.....just a tight squeeze to get it in there and on the verge of binding
