  • I picked up a 1978 200 a while ago, for no other purpose other than I was bored and needed a road-trip to New Jersey.
  • The head has been cleaned and no cracks found. It is sitting on a shelf, partially pocket ported ... (for sale soon)
  • The block has not been inspected yet. It is sitting on an engine stand. Assume it's good and can be bored.
  • Also assume it's going in my 65 Mustang Coupe. My HP goal is... about 400ish
  • Reply with your suggestions/ideas on the Carb/EFI, Ignition, Pistons, Cam, AL Head?, Tranny, Reardiff, Exhaust, Turbo???
  • Upvote the replies you like, downvote the ones you don't (up/down arrows on the right of the replies).
  • Let's have some fun with this!
As 'decisions' are made, they'll be posted here, subject to change.

Hey ya'll! I've been absent for awhile! Loving this thread!

On the 1.65 RAU shaft mount rockers. I have the very first set they made. Looks like photobucket may have disabled my account because I can't find the pics of the install anymore. There should be a thread somewhere here on them though.

In short, I love them! The customer service is awesome too. Yes, they are more expensive than the YT but I had already bought lifters and pushrods. The YT set requires oil-thru like the Cleveland engines. I also prefer the shaft mount anyway. The YT also require some other head modifications. So this saved me some time and $.

I've been reading on the BW turbos - Is an intercooler req'd?
Also, when it comes to pass - what parts of the turbo are most critical to ceramic coat?

And
Camshaft - Solid-Lifter Cam lobe duration in the 230 degree range @ .050" lobe lift and a wide LSA, drivable below 3500.
  1. Crower
  2. Comp
Also been making room in the garage to wheel the block into the back of the truck to bring to get checked.

You will need an intercooler for sure.

You will also need a Wastegate and a Blow Off Valve (BOV)

The only part of the turbocharger that would get coated is the turbine housing.
Also there are blankets available for the turbine side of the turbocharger.

BOVs are mostly separate and install near the throttle body.

Internal wastegates are usually not adjustable.
Sometimes there is a selection of canisters with different spring rates for different boost levels.

In order to adjust a canister above it's rated spring or boost level you have to resort to leaking off the control pressure to the canister.
If for some reason you lose that control pressure you lose the boost control and can do a lot of engine damage with overboost.

External wastegates provide adjustable boost control in a much safer fashion.

I like this thread:banana:
Would it be better to use a throttle body and individual injectors? This would eliminate uneven fuel distribution between the cylinders.
You know that port injection is better and the systems have many more control features than the Throttle Body Injection Systems.
The TBI system just cost less.

"use a throttle body and individual injectors"
I did set an 'arbitrary' budget of 10K - we are just about there with this current Bill of Materials.

I can always get another head for a TPI setup.

I was just answering 67straightsix knowing that he uses a Holley HP multiport injection system.
I didn't intend it for you as a consideration.

This is the oilpan that came on the engine - not sure if it's a fairmont/zepher - a good looking pan all in all, but a rear pickup. Not sure if this will clear the mustang suspension. I am OK to hack this one up to fit, plus would need to install an oil return.
