i was talking to my dad the other day, cos my little brother just bought a 1982 505 peugot this thing holds the road like a rock, OK i know its a 4 bangerand its only 2 litres but its a 5 spd manual and pulls like a ox, and once at 120 it sits there all day, but anyway he likes it cos its not too big and not a jap mobile, and will suit him while he does up his dream an XB, unfortunaltely i cant convince him that a worked 6 is as good as an 8, and i will admit the 8s sound better, but a healthy six sounds bloody good too

i will get back to the point i was talking to my dad and they are looking at a new BA as our family vehicle, apparently the suspension is the same or similar as wot some of the euro cars such as the mercs have had for over 20 years, in defence of the BA they look fresh and apparently they have a smaller turning circle than the new camry, is this due to the fact that the front wheels lie over as they turn ? if this is so then that is nnothing new either? how come its claimed to be a new innovation ?

No mate, the smaller turning circle was invented by Vauxhall and Opel (10.8m) which ended up in the Opel derived Commodore. The rear suspension is not found on Mercs, and its the VU Commodore which copied the extra control link off the 1982 190E Benz.

Toyotas are crap. My old power steered Cortina TF had a tighter turning circle than my wifes 1.6 litre shopping basket Corolla. The Camry is just a drawn, hung and quartered Corona FWD, and all FWD Toyo sh!+ boxes have awfull turning circles.

For the Falcon the tighter turning circle is an inovation though. A 12.3 to 13.2 meter turning circle like the old X-cars was huge-mungus. To shed almost 2 meters from turning circle on a car as big as the BA is an innovation. Its wider than an XD!

The Pug 504 is just in need of a nice 250 cross flow, and an exhast system that doesn't get choaked with bulldust and drop off in a washout. Pugs used to be the car to thrash in the outback. The cast -off OHC four Chrysler Centra engined GTi and Duovron 2.2 STi were awfull vibrating hulks. The ancient OHV 1971 cc engine was the quietest engine, and the tall aspect ratio tyres allowed it to run over kerbs, Holden grey motor cranks and hairy nosed wombats without denting a rim. There's a lesson in that car for every ricer driver, eh?

Ask Peugot Bill all about 'em. I still see 504's blatting about in Dunedin. Rust and cold and guttless engines never sink the old naggs.

It's a b@$+@rd being full of sh1+. I'm always lookin for some poor beggar to dump on.

Sorry, I've wiped me bib clean, and will shut up...(untill the next time)

Hullo rice receker.
Those 504's are a horrible car to look at and drive.
But the bl**dy thing cant be killed, they generally just keep on running.
There are some around here that are over the 400,000 k mark and still going. Oh well! ugly is not against reliability.
I must anounce that I had the privaledge of being able to drive A GTP FPV BA sedan.
WAAAAAAAHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pity about being an auto, but WHAT A CAR!
I have driven a couple of BAs, the normal six cylinder versions but this was something else.
It just goes to remind me that we build the best cars in the world bar none!
Our poor american cousins have mainly V6 front wheel drivers, mini vans or trucks.
Our european friend are stuck with the strangest cars known. And they have there own dedicated following, no doubt.
But when it comes to four door, six cylinder, rear wheel drive sedans. Look on our roads. There are none better, available new!
I will get off my soapbox now, thanks for listening.
Noel.

Almost as good as driving a Renault 16, eh Noel?

If the warm BAs were anything less, there wouldn't be so many on the road. But sit in peak hour traffic and it's one XR6 after another...

Adam.

The New BA 240T (XR6 Turbo) is the SH*T!!! But the XR8 Bonnet Bluge sends a shiver down my spine everytime I see one!! Drool

Hmmmm what about a XR6-T with the XR8 Bonnet in white with the blue GT stripes down the side. 6 Speed Tremec (Not the god awful Holden ratio one) Motec M800 + Dash data logger bigger Front mount I/C, Dropped a bit lower the the tarmac & 2.5bar of boost!!!!

Im sorry, I have to go clean myself up now

this poo got is definetrly a 505 not a 504 and apart from being slow it sticks like glue to the road and fairly well padded seats make it pretty comfy, mind you i will agree, it has been beaten wif a @$#%en ugly stick though!!

After being comforted by driving a BA XR or what ever.
I look forward to the thrill of driving a poo got or a (an) Reno.
Preferably something from the early to mid seventies and looked after by the local small animal rescuer.

 As an occasional rescuer of small animals, I find this very funny.

Yesterday saw a pair of Channel Billed Cuckoos in one of my trees... Bet that just thrills you to bits. They give a new dimension to ugly.

The 505 lookes Okay to me. I was actually talking about the 505, but got side tracked by the 504 bit. (I was nattering on inanely again?).

Pug, good name for a dog with its butt kicked in. The 504 sure fits the bill. After having a wild time in a 504 a while back, I can say that it is a mistake to allow a car tilt more than 8 degrees when going around a corner. Addo's Mum must need anti-sea-sick pills when having a fang in a Reno...

As for the monopoly on ugly, its the latest Toyota Camry. I thought the XJS Jag looked like a cat sick with myxomotsis, but the Camry looks like Violet Bouregard from Charlie and the Chocklate factory, just after eating an everlasting gob stopper. In my humble opinion.

Birds are different.
They dont make the inside of a car smell like it has rolled in something thats died.
If you want automotive ugly.
Look at the latest Magna.
Too many rounds with the ugly stick.
Noel.

You don't like it? It is so avant-garde for a production, mainstream Japanese car, I'm prepared to accept it. My father had one of the late '90s Magnas for work (when new); it seemed sprightlier than the Commodore. Then again, that could have just been the FWD twitchiness.
