I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but the 200 is in. I am still working out all the wiring and connections but it is in place and mostly ready to go!

I managed to keep the double wide balancer and have the fan clear the radiator by spacing the fan with a few washers from the local hardware store.

I still need to rig up the throttle and trans kickdown, but I have all the cables I will need for that.

Thanks everybody for all the help and putting up with my stupid questions. I have leaned alot, which is good considering I started out knowing nothing. So thank you.

Here are some pics of the new engine. I did not get a chance to paint it before the swap so it does not look as good as it might, just give me a little time, right now running good comes before looking good.

It looks like your regulator unit is not fixed to the sheetmetal yet. That'll need taking care of before starting up. But if you got all that way with the assistance of people here, that's terrific.

Regards, Adam.

HI
One thing I noticed in the pictures is that the water temp sending unit is in the wrong place....
You have it in the hose going to you heater core.. that won't work right.. the only time water is moving in that hose is when the heat is turned on... There is a screw out plug in the thermostat housing (from what I see in the pic.) thats where that should go..

:?: On my car the sending unit is on the back of the head, driver side, as in the second picture. The PVS switch goes in the thermostat housing.

that is only true if you have a heater valve....I know my fairlane doesn't have one....in fact when warming up all of the water will run through the heater core and not the radaitor

:?: Thats new to me.. I was sure all the older cars used a valve? Some are mounted inside the heater box. My old 64 international truck had one mounted inside the heater box. It was weird tho as it had a tempiture coil on it and would fluxuate the heat as the temp in the truck changed.. One of my hoses on the Comet goes through the firewall into the heater and the other hose is attached outside in the motor compartment. I'm sure I'll find a valve in there when I change hoses?? I don't think they started using a door to control heat untill the 80's or 90's maybe 70's.
Tim

no valve. on mustangs, comets, falcons, mavericks, the heater core is always "on". The temp is controlled by an air bypass in the heater box. When you have the temp on Cold, the bypass door blocks the heater core off completely.

infact I have never owned a car with one .....well my merkur had one but they are failure prone and had to be removed when I got it. there are times when it would be nice though.

I hooked all the hoses up the way they were before the swap so I assume they are correct. The one thing I am having trouble with is the exhaust pipe I can't seem to get it to line up correctly with the flange on the manifold. or when I get it lined up I can't hold it in place while I bolt it in.

HI
HHHMMM well I guess your never to old to learn (about the no heater valve)...

You might have to unhook the rest of the clamps on the pipe to free it up so you can attach it then go back and tighten everything back up...

Tim

OK. Please explain in laymans terms what, if anything I will need to charnge from the pictures.

Thanks
Eddie.

Well, other then that plastic oil pressure line I would say you are about ready to roll. I have had 2 of those lines burst on me in the past 6 months on my car. Then I got smart and bought a copper one.

Well the only thing I see would be the tacky looking water temp sending unit in the hose.. If you want to use it I'd put it in the right place (at the back of the head..) and if you don't just remove it..
As far as the oil prusher line plastic is ok unless it gets a lot of movement I guess from the motor. I've had one on my truck for 3yrs now with 50lb idle prusher and 75lb running with out probs..

No the one in the hose looks mechanical, the one at the back is electronic. It's already there. Might be just a warning light sender though, not a guage.
Yah I would just replace that hose unless you need that valve for a guage, or something.

The one in the hose IS machanical I knew that ... and they use there own gage so he already has the gage mounted in his car.. So all I was saying is if he wants to use it then mounted in the proper place so its more out of site and more accurate. You have to admit that it does look tacky with those pipe fittings right in front of the motor.

I finally drove the car with the 200 in!! It took me a while to get all the electrical hooked up, but WOW what a difference 30 cubes makes, I could tell it was more powerfull and responsive. My cable throttle was a little sticky and I havn't hooked up the kickdown yet, but otherwise it's running pretty well.

One thing I noticed was that there was some smoke coming from the new exhaust flange gasket, but I think I got it pretty well sealed and there is no sound of a leak. Any ideas or ways I can check for a leak?

It could possibly be grease and oil left on the exhaust parts and engine from the install. It has happened to me too many times. Once you finally get the engine running all the heat starts to burn away all your grease finger prints. Just my $.02

I know the feeling of a little power boost also, I went from a 144 and ford-o-matic to a 200 and c4.

Yeah I was thinking that might be it. I'll see if the smoke goes away onge it has been running longer.

Thanks
Eddie.
