Hello everybody. This is my first post.

I'm from Spain, and I have a 68' Mustang 200ci manual transmision.

I want have more power ( hp ) with my muscle car, what can I do in first place?

Thanks!!

:) Welcome to the Forum.

There are a lot of ways to get some more power out of your car. How much you can afford to spend, and what you want the car to be (something for everyday driving, or a "toy" for weekends, maybe), will affect your choices.

Many people start with the improved ignition system from a later model car (1978 Ford Fairmont). It can be bought as reconditioned parts, better than buying used pieces that often need service to start with. Many also choose to install a "performance" coil and spark plug wires.

After the ignition system is improved, next is often a bigger system of carburettor. Some choose to install a new carburettor with single venturi; like the old one but bigger. Others will buy a conversion set with a two-venturi carburettor, from a variety of choices. If you have money and dedication, there are kits to convert the cylinder head so it will use three carburettors; you may have seen pictures of this "Tri-Carb" set.

Your standard exhaust manifold can be replaced by headers. One problem for your situation will be high shipping costs, as these parts are large. With the headers, many people also fit dual exhaust pipes like on a V8.

These three stages of modification described above are probably the most common. There are more possible ways to improve the output of the engine, but they will also depend on the condition of your motor in the first place.

Finally, I will move this topic to the "Small Six Performance" section where more people may see it. You may even get replies en Español.

Regards, Adam.

HI AND WELCOM
With a 6 its only a muscle car in name and maybe looks only. If you want to make it a real muscle car drop a 302 or 351 in it.. Stroker of corse (I have even see a 460 cu. in them  NOW THATS ATTITUDE). There is no replacement for displacement.. ( I'll probrubly get spanked for that one  ) With that said.. You can get some good power out of the 6 but its steal a 6 and might suprise some V8 but in the long run the 6 is no match for a V8.

:stick:

Consider yourself spanked. Not for your comments, just for the heck of it.

Tim is right and wrong. You can build up a mean 6, turbo, EFI, etc and beat a very warmed over 302 and even some 351s. Now, if the 302 or 351 puts forced air on like you...then goodbye fantasy. If you want a real muscle car, tim is right...351 stroker. But then you'll just blend into the sea of V-8 cars. But being that you are in an area there are probably not a lot of mustangs, then you'll probably still stick out with a V-8.

6 is a state of mind. Refusal to follow the usual path. Like Frost said:

"I took the less traveled path, and that has made all the difference"

I use it only in weekends, I have a Peugeot 206 for every day travels.

Later, I saw that don't have so much power that I thought.

I would like to know how increase de horsepower...

Later I post some photos... thaks!!

Nice car!!

1st I would tune it up: new fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor performance spark plug wires & pcv valve. Also, check the timing and advance it from the factory setting of 4-6 degrees and set it to 8-10 degrees.

Then I would add a pertronix ignitor (to get rid of the points) K&N air filter and add a set of headers and dual exhaust so it sounds mean!

Later,

Doug

Hola!
Very nice car-
I am sure you will find this forum helpful. I would definately advise getting the Ford Falcon Performance handbook and using the helpful people on this forum. I started as a novice but this group ha helped me with many upgrades.

One of my pet improvements is the export brace, and I see you already have one, since obviously the car was an export. The next thing is the tire size. It looks like you might be running 205/70-14s or larger, and these will cause your car to feel sluggish, unless you changed the rear axle ratio. I run 185/70-14s, which give me the effect of running a lower rear axle ratio, and better acceleration. If you want a change that you will feel immediately, I recommend you try the smaller diameter tires. It will put an instant smile on your face. :D
