Time for a motor refresh - want some suggestions please!

Howdy everyone. I"ve been gone from the board for a while, but I'm back.

This weekend, I pulled the motor out of my 67 Mustang Hardtop. It is a 200, with the ozzie head, headers, DUI, MC2100 Carb and automatic transmission.

I installed it last year and have been really enjoying my car. At the time I completed my project, I also did front disc brakes and a 5 bolt rear end.

The engine has been leaking in a few spots and running hot. Also, I wanted to detail the engine bay and dress up the engine. Thats where I'm looking for some help.

I would like to go with a Ron Davis alum radiator with integrated electric fan. But I'm not sure what to do about my existing pulley system. Do I (or can I) switch to a serpentine belt setup? I run aftermarket A/C. Or instead, do I just keep my existing pulley system and not run the fan?

Since I'm planning to dress things up, they'll be a lot of chrome and polish. Stainless steel braided lines, etc. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

IDK if it will help, but

I'm looking to the future to do a dual 8 inch electric fan.
I'd just use the original pulley system.
I recemend a nice 130 amp chrome 1 wire alt, should compliment the engine.
A good painless wireing kit.

I have found my rebuild likes the heat, just took out my 180 t-stat and am using a 195 t-stat. stock IIRC was 193* my alum rad I got from the mustang shop here. I don't know if this will work during summer though. hopefully i'll be able to get the fans in before then

Hey Vinny, welcome back!...myself I'm like a bad penny...lol

My 'guess' is that most the folks running electric fans have just done the fan delete, keeping the water pump pulley. I do recall some discussions re:electric water pumps, if you're considering that option...free up a 'small' amout of hp, but the minimalist look of one less pulley might also be nice for a cleaner look.

AFAIK there is not an easy option for serpentine because the 200 didn't last into the everything serpentine era...my guess is the tensioner would have to be a creative fab, then there's pulleys?? (I seem to recall Slade looking into this...not sure if he's running one or not). Hopefully some others will be able to shed light on your options.

Check out that other post with the aluminum water pump. That bad boy is just waiting to be polished up nice and shiny! And you can feel even better about installing it because you are reducing weight! And when you polish the water pump also do the front cover.

Stick with stock pulley and belts but "upgrade" the other stuff.

keep your existing pulley system, it works just fine, and eliminate the mechanical fan. the pulleys can be chromed if you like, just remember to rough up the belt surface a bit to prevent belt slippage. you can also powder coat the pulleys in a variety of colors as well.

stainless steel braided lines are nice, but somewhat passe these days, just about everyone does them. a better choice would be braided hose, but the braid is colored, again in a variety of colors. you can even get coverings for the hose that you have now for much less than real braided hose. another idea is chromed or powder coated flexible copper tubing. these are available in a variety of sizes, and different style ends are available. check out summit racing for these tubes.

get an aluminum water pump like mugsy said, i just put it on and it brought up the apperance factor alot, ill try to post some pics

I agree the serpentine system is unlikely. Chroming what I have is definitely an option. I'll try and find the alum water pump and polish that as well.

I have an original intake from australia (2 bbl) that I painted before I installed. I think I'll have that polished up as well. I want some shine this time!

I know "chrome don't get ya home", but I want some bling to go with my performance.

I've looked at serpentine set ups, but mostly to accommodate a supercharger. Eventually I'll get back to that, but my garage bay has been overrun with household projects. I also just acquired a 'newer' truck and think my wife will kill me if I spend anymore money on cars this calender year...

I don't personally like electric water pumps. But then again, I'm just a fan of mechanically drive pumps for vital systems and always have been (even when working on ships).

I tried braided hose, but found it's really a PITA to install and keep them looking nice. But when you do it right, they can look awesome. Heatercore lines, etc. I'm personally not to the stage of dressing out the engine bay yet.

Not going to get into performance aspects, but I personally like the look of the flex fans on the inlines. I'm not running it anymore, but it did look nice. I'm back to just running my original 4 bladed fan. The flex fan was just a little too loud for my taste, but loved the look of it.

Looks good Slade. I"m not going to go overboard on the bling, just want to clean it up and add some shiny stuff here and there.

I'll look into polishing the aluminum mechanical waterpump - that will be fine for my application.
