I'm planning on changing my timing chain. 1966 200, engine is still in the car. I want to install the FSPP roller chain and gear set. The Ford service manual indicates to drop the oil pan. Is this step necessary? Thanks for any input/advice. Lowell

It wasn't for me, but I have a Fairmont. Just had to pull the rad. The timing cover is on about 2 inches of the oil pan, but the gasket kit supplies the appropriate gasket pieces for the situation.

You don`t need to lower the oil pan but it does help if you remove 3 or 4 of the oil pan bolts just after the timimg chain cover so it slides off easier.
