Timing gear question.

I never thought to check the hub thickness of the JP billet dual roller chain before I installed it. After pulling it on with the bolt/washer I removed the bolt and noticed that the cam didn't come out flush with the front of the gear hub. It wouldn't go on any further but it was about 1/8" short. It also fit tighter than the stock gear did. I didn't think about it until putting the OEM cam on the shelf today. The stock gear bolts up flush with the end of the stock camshaft. Got me to thinking about the custom one I just installed. Should it have been flush too? Everything seems to line up OK.

It's normal.

The JP is a dual-roller, so it's thicker than OEM. If the cam snouts were made longer, the single-rollers wouldn't tighten down.

Harry - the spacer ring is still on the camshaft, right? It's a small ring that goes between the thrust plate and the front journal shoulder.

Yeah, The spacer ring is installed correctly. One reason it made it on was because I wired to to the gear along with the retainer to prevent losing it. It's amazing how stuff seems to walk away all by itself. Guess the missing stuff goes the same place lost socks go!

I even remembered which side the bevel went to.
