Timing, think I had a brain fart...

Ok, dumb general question because I'm having an ongoing brain fart from not having to do anything other than set stock timing in ages...

Making sure I got this right... to RETARD timing (ie I removed EGR junk and need to retard to get rid of spark knock) I move the timing closer to TDC.
Advancing timing is moving further BTDC, correct?

Stock is 10 BTDC
Advanced would be 12 BTDC
Retarded would be 8 BTDC...

Have I got it right?

Well, I got it right NOW, lol. Didn't get it right when I re-did the timing on the car... that'll teach me to do suff like that in a freezing rain/sleet when all I can think about is getting back inside, lol.
I'll get 'er straightened out.
