triple carbs on log

I notice that some 6's have triple carbs but looks like the original log is still in place (at least it looks that way in the photo's I have seen) Is it just an adapter that bolts to the original carb mount or are there some holes drilled into the log to accommodate the three carbs.

8) its a combination of both actually. holes need to be drilled in the ends of the log to allow the carbs to operate, but there is an adapter that bolts to the log that locates the carbs properly. the kits usually include the necessary linkage also.
