turbo manifold update

Well, I am starting back the work on getting the 68 running right. I started with trying to find my exhaust leak... I hated it sooo much, sooo I tightened the manifold and it made no difference so I decided itneeded to be planed or it was leaking form someof the welds, so I took it all off and got it apart and noticed 2 or so of the pors were actually sealed to the head, so Im going to have it planed. as for the manifold itself, all welds look good and are still intact, a few were skeptical with the whole mig welding the flange to the stock manifold but so far so good no leaks there and it has held up through a couple hours of highway driving, to idleing, around town and in traffic. I am going to buy the turbocharger book form hugh mcrines or whoever... thats going to be way off but if you know about it you should know which one im talking about and then a book about holley carbs. I helped my dad rebuild the stock one, but I have very minimal knowledge as to what does what, so I am going to buy one that I saw in a local perfomance shop, it looks pretty good. I am lookinginto buying the innovate lm-1, but wont be able to buy it right away until I get the 95 payed off, but I am sellign my 68 parts car and my 66 dart and should be REALLY close. I started the 68 yesterday but there was a trailer behind me so all I could do was brake torque to build up boost and hear the turbo spool. Thats all I need to get going but I couldnt before because I had all the wiring apart trying to get it looking better. I also have some goodies that will go in relatively soon and should help ALOT! ummm I also want to get pics up of the manifold I dont really have any good ones, and maybe one of these days ill sell the setup and make my own header and uprgrade the turbo.

:stick: Paragraphs, please!

P.S. Get 006 to sell the Dart for you first...

Ill work on the paragraphs, I didnt realize it was as big as it was. and the dart is going to be sold to my dad, I dont know how much but I paid 200 for it and someone showed up and asked if it needed a grille, and I did, and he gave me the grill that came out of the car 10 years ago, kinda crazy, considering the car is at our garage on an acre of property barely visible from a parking lot on a dead end road. And I guess somone saw my parts car and said they might give me 800 for it, and I paid 600 for it and sold a couple hundred dollars worth of parts of it and used a hood, fender and some other misc parts.

sorry for the long wait, had to remember my camera... anyway I got it all back together, no more leak, it sounds sooooo much better now under the hood, I also drove it aroudn the block with an open downpipe... was pretty loud...

Anyway heres the pics, hope you guys enjoy them... oh ya and the one of the turbo is just to show you how HUGE it really is... lol my K&N filter is bigger than the turbo itself... kinda sad. and the last one was to show just how well the manifod was sealing.

Make sure you always cut out the center divider of the gasket between 3 and 4 so it doesn't break off and go through the turbo!!

I suuuurrrrreee did. I looked at the old one and figured I should... was fairly easy also.

After hooking up a fuel pressure gauge, I saw that I had 4psi of pressure and it was going up to about 15 under boost while brake torquing, but I noticed it was kind of stumbling, and yesterday when I took it for a spin it seemed to nto run as well as it had been and I couldnt punch the throttle, or even really roll onto the throttle anywhere fast to try to break the tires loose while rolling and I decided to pull the plugs to see what they were lookign like... well, I pulled #1 and saw it was COVERED with oil, like it was running off the plug, and #2, and #3 were all the same, oil all over them and they were black, I had to go so I never got to the rest. I also installed a clear fuel bowl sight plug, and the level never seems to go up no matter how high we set it. any ideas on the above topics?

edit: compression wise they are all showing above 125, the highest being 135. as for the oil I pulled the others and it appear the oil is coming from the valve cover which is leaking, and the dipstick tube also blew some out. I guess Im getting some blowby. any ideas on how to cure this other than rings? I guess Im going to have to start building up my spare and hopefully get mikes head on it and have a better V8 beater.

i agree start building another motor and make sure u get forged pistons too that way u dont have to worry about them breaking on u

HA! I wish... I would have double the money in pistons than the turbo setup.... their REALLY expensive, I wish my dad would have let me buy one of the sets off ebay fro 75 dollars a while back... I havents seen any on there for a long time.

Any engine that is blowing the dipstick out is having very bad blowby.

I have two sets of forged pistons, new in the box, one set std the other .020 that I might be able to be talked out of.

woah. why didnt anyone tell me that an open downpipe makes such a big difference? I revved it yesterday and I couldnt let off before it hit the limiter. its crazy. but I am sure that along with my exhaust leak being taken care of must have helped quite a bit. now I just have to get my bogging or whatever figured out.
