You have no idea what you are talking about.
Recipe to go fast:
1) C4 trans with full manual valve body, transbrake and proper torque converter
2) whatever engine combo yopu want to bolt to the front of it
3) good suspension and tires.
If going really fast at the digs is the ultimate goal you won't even consider a manual trans
Once you stage, you set the transbrake and hold the gas on the floor. Let go of the button when you want to leave and hang the hell on.
On a good launch I could have been in the 12's on a 1 bbl carb. I have about $1200 in my entire car. The only thing keeping me out of the 12's was I didn't have a transbrake (or a more expensive trque converter).
That's the thing: IF you have an automatic, lag may not be an issue. However, most people I know have turbo/manual or supercharger/automatic. It's just as I put it: most people who go turbo around here do it to go the riceburner path, while supercharged people go the hotrodding way.
You're just an exception

Turbochargers are just the natural evolution in boosting. Even big diesels use turbochargers instead of superchargers or turbocharger&supercharger. It's just the fact that the supercharger behaves like an extention to the motor (which it is) that makes it so appealing.
EDIT: Just read Az's post... D'OH! lol a lot better way of putting it. lol
