V8 i didnt want to but..?

I'm sure somebody will correct me if i'm wrong but you could create an adaptor plate to make the toploader work. However unless you already have a toploader then i would suggest going with a T5 instead as you can buy adaptors for your application from (i believe) modern drivelines.

Thanks a lot guys! I just put a new 7.25 rear end in my Frankenstang. Now that you got me thinking, I'll probably need to replace the rear end again. I wish I saw this post about a month ago when I was considering an 8 in rear end. ARGH!

the 250ci mustangs (L-code) have the same transmission, rear-end and suspension as the 302ci versions and they also have 5 lug wheels.

I have heard of people not having problems with 4-lug front suspention V8 setups some for many years. The 7.25 rear end is another story. Really cant expect that to last too long. But most of the poeple who advise against it have not tried it. And the few that I have come accross that have tried, and later went to V8 front suspention did so to match the 5 lug rear end. The SBF is "somewhat" heavier but sits back further in the car so the actual weight on the front wheels is not too much different.
That being said, If someone has personal experiences to prove otherwise I'd like to hear them.

You've heard of a lot of people using the 4 bolt front suspensions and not having problems.
1. What year are the cars, after 1967 Ford only made one spindle for Drum Brakes and 1 spindle for discs, it didn't matter which hub was used, so those spindles are all bent8 quality and yes they would work, but the drum brakes are mucho tiny
2. How do they drive the cars? Speed Racer or old Lady going to church on Sunday that's owned the car since it had 2 miles on the odometer (and now it's up to 12,000k after 45 years)

If you can find one of those people with original 6 cylinder spindels on the early cars (pre '67) ask them how fast they stop. From any speed.

FWIW, I've put a 302 into my '67 Mustang that orignially had a 200 and it bolted right in, the only things I had to change was the frame mounts, radiator, throttle linkage, fuel line plumbing, wiring. I never drove it though, I later gave the bent8 to my younger brother and the next motor that car receives will be a 250.

heck I would grab that 250 and freshen up the bottom end. toss on mikes head and put a T5 behind it (you can just use a fox mustang bellhousing)

would be talking a bit of money but no more than a V8 swap.

or you could always force induction a 200...
